Topic: How about a "Classics" section here in Push Square?

With the amount of PS1 and PS2 classics now available on PSN, I think it'd be awesome if the writers here at Push Square decided to open up a "Classics" section here on the website (much like Nintendo Life's "Retro" section) which would focus on these games.

Although a lot of people have already played these games and are likely to go back to them only for nostalgia, I'm pretty sure there are gamers out there like me as well, who didn't get the chance to play a large amount of these when they came out either because they were too young or were plying their trade on a different console. Modern-day reviews of these classics would help some of the newer gamers to make an "informed" purchase and let's face it, it's always fun to read well-written reviews or any other article about video games so yeah, they'll make a good read too for everybody in general!

So what does everyone think about it?

It could be nice, I've constantly had to look at reviews for the PS2 classics because I never heard of some of them before.

Exactly! And it'd be awesome if these games are reviewed with the distinct Push Square touch. Last month, there was an excellent article about the history of Playstation by Damien Mcferran and more articles like that could be featured there as well.

I always enjoy the retro/VC reviews on Nlife so it sounds lik a good idea. Maybe at least try for the ones avalibe on PSN.

I'd like some classic reviews, since there's lost of old games I haven't played/heard about that look interesting yet I am unsure about them.

I bought Tomb Raider 2 in the recent Summer Sale. The game has not aged well at all, in my opinion. Really bummed. A "Classics" section could really be helpful. Existing reviews speak pretty well of the game but a modern-day review could've warned me of the problems I'd face

Honestly most older games don't age gracefully. Things have moved on and it is hard to go back.
Take Bioshock. The game of its generation. Now comes over as a great idea, haunting world that has been clunkily executed. Average graphics and too many levels that look, feel and play exactly the same. It gets tedious.

I think if you enjoyed a game at the time, if can be fun to go back and have a nostalgic romp, but if you come to an older game for the first time, it is regularly disappointing.

Doesn't mean they aren't good games, that were loved in their time, but out expectations have changed, and that get in the way of the experience. At least it does for me.

A classics review area would be good. However, unless the reviews capture how a game has aged (some better than others), then I wouldn't pay much attention to it personally.

I'd have to agree with almost everything you said except probably the Bioshock part, cause' I played it for the first time this July and it was pretty good!

And, you're right. The classics section, if introduced should have reviews which mention whether a game will appeal to newcomers or is probably best suited for those looking for a little nostalgia. But overall, I do hope the PS staff decide to introduce this in the near future. They could accept user reviews as well, to give it a boost in its initial stages

I'm just hoping that the PS staff will decide to introduce the section very soon.
