Topic: Can you swap out a PS3 motherboard with another?

I have a PS3 slim with a bad hdmi. I tried changing the port and it's still not working so i thought what if i just replace the whole motherboard? Will that work? I mean if it's another working PS3 slim motherboard is that all i need to fix it?

If not i could just forget the the hdmi and just connect it with the standard AV cables. It won't be HD anymore but at least it'll get a picture on the TV.

Anybody with any experience replacing PS3 motherboards here?

I was reading something about if you replace the blu ray drive it has to be remarried to the motherboard or it won't read discs but what if I'm simply swapping out the motherboard with another from the same model PS3?

That'll work right? Just wanna make sure before i replace the whole motherboard.

Anyone know about this stuff that can lend some help?

Absolutely no idea, but it begs the question why not just buy a replacement PS3 and save the hassle?

@Truegamer79 The motherboard and drive are matched to each other much like how OG Xbox 1 hard drives were tied to the individual motherboard. It's a unique factory generated number, A replacement won't work directly, no matter what model it's from.

It's a security mechanism, it wouldn't be so easily bypassed. It's probably just easier to find a replacement machine unless you have a specific model that you can't easily give up (like a launch NTSC BC unit)

Oh i see. Well so much for that idea. Guess I'll just button the PS3 back up and see if it'll work without the hdmi.

@Truegamer79 Another alternate depends on your current TV. You could get the official PlayStation RGB cable component cable that allows 720p instead of the standard 480p.
