Everytime I visit this site I am now greeted with the Cookie Privacy Policy Screen, up until maybe 2 weeks or so this never existed. Unable to visit anything on this site until I enter the Cookie settings and set them to deny. I understand its my web browser clearing the cookie cache when exiting a session the reasoning why it always appears. Why the change? Ad revenue down? Privacy Policy updates?

Ads also really good at proximate positions for a errant click or finger tap. Nice trap! its worked so many times for you, enjoy the ad revenue.

@GhostofJettatura cookie consent is becoming a legal requirement in more and more places, including the US and here in the UK/Europe under GDPR. The new cookie consent tool we've rolled out actually gives users more control than before, allowing them to opt-out of certain types of cookies.

We also need to demonstrate that we have obtained consent before setting ANY cookies, therefore this tool is required. Ironically we have to store the users consent/choices too... in a cookie. Therefore if you're removing that cookie on exit, then the consent is lost and we have to ask again. The only change here is the potential of saving that consent on the server tied to a user account, but you'd need to login first anyway...

The change is nothing to do with ad revenue, it's just following our legal requirements. It's not ideal for the user, but until the law or browsers change to make this more seamless we're stuck with it.

@antdickens At least you're doing a better job of it than Kotaku. Since today they are showing me the dialog on every page, no matter how many times I've clicked on Accept.

@Kidfried that sounds like a bug to be honest, I'm not sure that would be intentional Cookies and governments aren't having the best time at the moment. I'm hopeful that browsers will take over on the consent side of things in the near future so every website doesn't have to ask in a slightly different way each time.

Yeah I've noticed this happening on a few sites I visit on a regular basis. It is not happening everytime I close my browser and then open it up again though. I don't feel it a massive issue for me as I just click on either deny or accept each time.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@antdickens I'm surprised Google hasn't already, this legislation has been in effect in my country for years already.

And yes, obviously the Kotaku thing is a big. It's always funny when even big sites like that can make those kind of mistakes. (This is coming from someone who works in IT and makes that kind of mistakes probably daily, ha!)

Bloody GDPR, I say as I elect to give websites access to my personal data and wonder why I’m getting 20 emails about viagra a day.

@antdickens Sounds Good, at least there are options with the Cookies and Privacy. Thanks for the reply on this subject.
