Hi, I’ve tried everything to get my PS4 controller to work but nothing works unfortunately. I’ve tried to use the PS4 remotely via the PS4 app on my phone but I can’t get past the bloody screen at the start that says the PS4 wasn’t turned off properly. Any thoughts apart from Suggesting buying a new PS4? I only want it for the Sky go app for the upcoming football season, not for gaming anymore. Thanks.

Ps I’ve tried holding the tiny button on the controller with a pin, as well as pressing and holding PS4 button and share button simultaneously. I’ve also tried turning on and off but to no avail. If I could only get past the screen at the start that requires me to press ok I could then pair the PS4 up with my phones app.

@Hoganballs I apologise for asking the obvious, but you haven't said whether you've reconnected the controller to the console with its USB cable? Because that's how it re-pairs itself.

I’ve connected multiple USB to the Controller from the PS4 and nothing works. It just flashes very slowly orange but never charges up or PS4 button never works. I’ve taken it off the charger and pressed the PS4 button and share button together and it just flashes blue really quickly and nothing else!

There’s nothing wrong with the PS4 console, I’ve had that message appear countless times and it worked fine the next time. Quite often I’d have left the console running and turned it over to watch the tv, forgot about it and went to bed. My girlfriend has then went and switched it off at the mains not knowing how to turn it off properly. Like I say, this has occurred more times than I can remember, it isn’t the problem here.

The problem resides with the controller. I’m thinking of buying a charging dock to rule out the possibility that it’s the USB connection in the controller that’s at fault.

What I really want to know is there anyway I can bypass that message at the start without having a working controller? What’s the point in having an app on a phone that can’t really control the PlayStation without getting into the settings on the PS4 first?

I really dunno why PlayStation don’t have a secondary button on the PS4 that would allow you to scroll across and adjust settings and what not, without a working controller.

@Hoganballs https://support.playstation.com/s/article/Safe-Mode-PS4?langu...

Use this guide to boot the PS4 in safe mode and see if the controller works (wired) in that menu.

It's luck of the draw whether the PS4 will start up again after incorrect shut down. It might work for a while but there will probably come a point where you'll have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS.

There's a couple options in that safe mode menu that aren't as nuclear but check the support link for details and see if anything else works first.

If the controller doesn't work in that menu then I'm out of ideas.

@Hoganballs By continually switching the consol off at the mains when the it was not turned off (or even in rest mode), you have probably done more significant damage than if it was only done a couple of times. Which is why you are now having these problems.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
