Hi my PS4 is shutting down due to overheating.
I have a new PlayStation coming today. Can I just re download the game on the new console and crack on? Seen people data transfer but obviously I can’t as it just shuts down after a few minutes!?
Thanks

You might have luck cleaning dust out of your old PS4, you could open the PS4 to clean dust out. I wonder if you can use the old PS4's hard drive in the new PS4.

Cheers. Yeah I’ve ordered another fan and will strip it down and the daughter can have that one. If it works ok. From what I understand you can’t swap the hard drive from one to another as it’s linked to that PS.

@English Yep you can do that but I'm not sure on whether it will be reformatted when you swap the drives over, as I've only put a new drive into my ps4.

My PS4 has shut itself off twice now in the last few months. I reckon it's time to give it a good and thorough clean. I'd rather not have to fork out coin for another PS4 right before the PS5 is due.

Hi, putting a PS4 hard drive in another PS4 will require a format. Also with the overheating don't forget to apply new thermal paste and check the fins on the heatsink. The fan may no be the only factor. If the fan is still working it will not need replacing as removing the dirt inside will correct the issue. Is this a slim or older model PS4? If when you have done a clean and the issue persisit it may be a faulty solder joint between the APU and motherboard. (I have found this issue when repairing older model PS4s)

@lernien I did the basic cleaning of the fan a couple of months ago where you basically take covers off and air blow the fan it was dusty but more in the covers. The fan was and has been very noisy for a while. I watched a video on how to remove the fan. You’re correct in the video I watched it was the heat sink that was blocked full of dust. so I’m going to wait for the new fan to arrive and do a full strip down. I feel the bearings have gone in the fan as it’s not noisy with the fan speed more the fault fan noise. Great shout with the thermo paste. Will order some now. Thanks

Also I didn’t give it much attention on the model I was buying. I just brought the cheapest from curry’s. And it’s half the size of my original Ps. Also looks more sealed than my ps. So unsure even if my hard drive would fit. I ended up just signing in on new PS and re downloading Call of duty. Everything saved so all good. It will do the Job till the 5 comes out.
