It was in the works for a very long time, but Freedom Planet 2 made its debut on PC in 2022 to a great reception. Us console peasants have had to wait even longer, but at last, the side-scrolling sequel has a firm release date on PS5 and PS4. The game finally lands on 4th April 2024.
Freedom Planet 2 looks like a bigger, better version of its predecessor. Like the original Freedom Planet, this game takes inspiration from 16-bit era action games and platformers, mixing in Sonic-esque speed with more of a focus on combat and big bosses. It features four playable characters, each with their own abilities and traversal techniques. The above trailer provides a good overview.

I never heard of the first Freedom Planet, but damn this is borderline copy-pasting from the Sonic games.

Fantastic. Been waiting for this - first game was good and heard great things about the second. Discovered this series after John Linneman had this on his Best Games of 2022 List.
@Olmaz The first Freedom Planet was actually going to be a Sonic The Hedgehog fangame, but it's scope expanded that it became it's own game and the studio were able to get it released as a completely separate game.

there is only one SONIC!!!!! and this game isn't it. nobody puts Sonic the Hedgehog in the corner.

@phoenix1 I dunno, Sega do a pretty good job of putting sonic in a corner. Pretty bad when fans are able to make much better sonic style games, than the company that created him.
Freedom Planet was great, shall be grabbing this too.
