Video game sales in the United States were up an unfathomable 52 per cent year-over-year in May 2020, according to the latest NPD report. Total industry spend reached almost $1 billion, which is just short of the $1.2 billion record set in May 2008. That was the month that Grand Theft Auto IV released, but the aging Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a best-seller seven years after its debut.
Rockstar’s open worlder finished in 2nd position in the software charts, behind only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This wasn’t a big month for new releases, with Minecraft: Dungeons and Saints Row The Third Remastered being the only real noteworthy new names in the PlayStation space. I couldn't care less about GTAV and starting the PS5 stream with it was a bit of a bummer, but when you how well its still selling this many years later, it's hard to blame them for wanting to stay cozy with Rockstar.
Like the guys above said GTAV still sells so it appearing in the reveal last night makes sense when it comes to appealing to the casual market.
I wish GTAV would have died years ago. Clunky controls, clunky health recovery system, horrible load times, horrible matchmaking and mode layout, horrible multiple aiming setup. Free-aim and free-aim assist mixed together.
Got GTAV for free on EPIC and still not played it. It wants 90GB of my hard drive. Maybe some day.
Great to see Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and The Show still in the top 10 best selling of 2020. Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order holding on.
Hopefully the new StarWars Squadrons will be good 🤞
