The release of the hotly anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake is right around the corner, with just a few weeks left to go before you can experience the revamped horror classic for yourself. If you really can't wait, though, it looks like you might get a chance to sample the game a little early. The folks over at TrueAchievements have discovered something called a One-Shot Demo for Resi 2 on the Xbox Store, scheduled to launch on 11th January 2019.
The demo, which will only be available until the end of January, seems to give players access to the opening moments of the game, but with a strict time limit of half an hour. Here's the official description from the store page:
This specially tuned demo allows you to experience the newly reimagined Resident Evil 2, but be warned: whilst you can continue as many times as you like after dying, you'll only have 30 MINUTES to complete the demo. Take in the horror atmosphere at your own pace, or make a desperate dash to solve all the puzzles Raccoon Police Department has to offer? The choice is yours!
Originally released in 1998, Resident Evil 2, one of the most iconic games of all time, returns completely reimagined for next-gen consoles.
- Play individual campaigns for both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield using an all new 3rd person view
- Explore the zombie infested areas of Raccoon City, now stunningly re-built using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine.
- New puzzles, storylines and areas.
Even though this is sourced from the Xbox Store, the demo is a dead cert for release on PS4 too. Does that mean it's a one time thing, play it for 30 minutes and then you can't play it again (like a Nintendo demo has set uses) or it just ends after 30 minutes but you can play it as many times as you want too?
Bit annoying really, I absolutely don't want to play this as it will ruin the main game for me once it releases, but equally it's going to be hard to resist.
Awesome stuff. Thirty minutes is all I need to vindicate my pre-order.
@NintendoFan4Lyf probably do actually, it would explain why we still can't pre-order the physical edition of DMC5 on PS4 while the XB1 version has been up for months

@kyleforrester87 I know exactly how you feel, in my mind there is no way I'm downloading this so that I can experience it fresh bit as soon as it appears who knows.
On a side note I'd kind of assumed it was just one campaign from something I'd read so it's good to know there is a separate campaign for each character
So the E3 demo? Hoping it would be out sooner I really wanna play but I might hold off as it's so close to the game
@Quintumply not necessarily. On Xbox you can have trial versions that you can play for a set amount of time after which you can’t launch it anymore.
Eugh, I'm not a big fan of timed demos. Capcom should just take a small piece from the beginning of the game and let you play it indefinitely. Ya know, like most demos.
I'll probably skip it and wait until the full game is out since the demo is out a few weeks before.
@FullbringIchigo Sony seems to have a deal with RE2 since it was announced at their stage, also you can pre-order the PS4 version of DMC5 in some places, it's just inconsistent (Like on Amazon UK you can't but Amazon Italy you can, that may just be an Amazon thing? idk).
Edit: I just checked Game's website and it's available there too, must be an Amazon thing then.

but nah, i don't think it's that, it's the time limit that will be against you.
@hulkie the fact that it was discovered by the xbox fanbase does get me thinking that is the case.
MS have a habit of leaking stuff on their store. It's almost as if they do it on purpose so they can have a bit of that old brand recognition.
for the people that don't want to spoil the game by playing this demo,it could be like the kitchen demo from 7.
just to show off the overall mood and engine power of the game but without anything final product related. (story,scares etc)

Have this baby pre-ordered so no need to sample this demo for me. Had Resi 7 Gold Edition waiting in my backlog for ages and got to enjoy it at Halloween there, it's an absolute masterpiece!
