I Am Setsuna may not have set the genre alight when it launched last year, but its decision to stick with a very traditional Japanese role-playing style made it an enjoyable reminder that the formula still works. Developer Tokyo RPG Factory is now hard at work on its next project, Lost Sphear, and Polygon's captured 15 minutes of gameplay for us to gawk at.
As you'd expect, it's of a very similar build to I Am Setsuna, but we're certainly not complaining. Environments look lovely and there's a pleasantness to just about everything that the game does. Lost Sphear launches in January of next year, but has it caught your attention? Embark on another grand quest in the comments section below.

Meh, just like with I am Setsuna, the soundtrack fails to impress, at least they seem to have added more than a single instrument (piano) for a track but still everything sounds so boring and samey, the battle theme in particular lacks any urgency. I'll be giving this a miss, get some better composers and then we'll talk.
I actually really enjoyed I am Setsuna, just as a refreshing throwback, but if they don't add any innovation or something unique to subsequent releases I think people will start losing interest, which would be a shame.
I thoroughly enjoyed I Am Setsuna. I'm ready for the follow-up.
@ShogunRok £39.99?! What are SE smoking? Satsuna wasn't awful by a long stretch but left plenty to be desired even at £14.99 or whatever it was.
I'll be happy to buy it at launch if it gets glowing reviews..but I don't see it.
@kyleforrester87 its 39.99 because they know it'll sell on Switch to 49.99, chumps
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I guess. Hey if it's worth £40-£50 then I've no problem with it, but TGF are gunna have to up their game this time round for that money.
I liked Setsuna and thought the piano music was very fitting...but I got it when it was on sale and I will probably do the same with this title.
I'm liking it so far. Gives me a warm Wild Arms-ish feeling.
It looks decent but I'm highly skeptical after Setsuna, while the gameplay of that game was pretty great, the story was basically non-existent and it was an incredibly short game. The game should have been double the length and slower paced so that we could actually care for the characters and their plights. In a lot of ways the story was reminiscent of FFX but without that game's nuance which was a shame since it had so much potential.
I'll be waiting for reviews on this one, especially now it's a had a ridiculous price hike. It's gonna have to be transcendent if it's anything like Setsuna since selling a game worth a tenner at most for full price is ridiculous.
