When isolated, the PlayStation 3's 1.21 million sales are reasonable if not spectacular. Unfortunately, it's when the other platforms are brought into the equation that the numbers look meagre for Sony. While Microsoft didn't enjoy the North American domination many assumed they would — tallying a solid 1.86 million units for the month — it was Nintendo that again run away with the market. With 2.36 million Wii consoles sold and a further 2.5 million DS' — on the eve of the system's successor — it was another impressive performance by Japanese platform holder.
Nintendo also happened to dominate software, with three Nintendo Wii exclusives making up the top ten. Call Of Duty: Black Ops was the big winner though, controlling 2010 as a whole despite its late launch. Sports games also factored heavily in the software top ten, with Madden and NBA 2K11 both making appearances.
