Re: Is PSN Offline? Yes, and the Scheduled Maintenance Doesn't Start Until Tomorrow

@Quahar I would gladly don my cape and tights...ahem! But the problem is that the attacker isn't stealing any data and to trace the original IP would take a team of people a few days if not weeks because they'll have basically bounced it around the world.
This would be classed as a sucker punch of the hacking world as it gains the hacker nothing and is relatively untraceable. The only eff up they made was a threat of bombing an American airline which takes it from a poor joke to a criminal offence, which is another reason this may be taking so long as Sony have probably had to involve the law and the best way to catch them is to let them keep doing it...unfortunately

I seriously don't get it. I'm sure you all know what DDOS is by now (flooding the server with enough artificial traffic to overload it) and all that takes is a server reboot. I've been in computer programming for years and the only reason this could be going on for so long is every time they reboot servers they are being hit again. If that's the case this could go on for a while...basically until the beggar doing it gets caught/bored/or otherwise incapacitated by an over zealous/vigilante PS owner.

@Timmy21 From what I've read (I would post links if I could but on with mobile and won't post links for some reason) Sony are using this time for maintenance which may or may not be extended to 7:50pm GMT 25/08/14. From what I can gather, if they don't have servers back up by 3:00am GMT they will continue maintenance until that time. So I'm assuming that they are using this down time for maintenance too. None of this is set in stone but at least we have some info from Sony

@TrueNsPride Even if it wasn't them, they claimed responsibility and posted fake tweets warning PSN director of a bomb on his plane. That in itself, given the current political situation is a criminal offence. DDOS in itself is not a crime. It lies in the grey area of cyber crime, but bomb threats are...just check out the tweets, it's all they're with their #tag right above it. I'm only stating fact.
