I don't get the big deal. This is a very similar deal to the AC Valhalla one, which included the Berserker Mission, which was later released to all, and the two large expansions. Allowing players to buy an ultimate edition including two expansions at a reduced price (season pass or individual expansions will likely cost more at launch) is fine. The core problem is no one knows how good the game is and whether they'd want to play the expansions. I was ultimately glad I got the ultimate edition for Valhalla because I wanted to experience the expansions, and I saved a little in the process.
In the end, the player has to decide whether or not to take a gamble on an early investment that may or not pay off based on their enjoyment of the game.
