Sonic X Shadow Generations has now officially sold more than 3 million copies, publisher SEGA has announced.

In a new social post, it's been confirmed the remaster (which comes with the Shadow Generations companion piece) has reached the new milestone.

The news comes just as the game celebrates its second anniversary.

3 million total sales is strong for the mainline Sonic series, and given this is a simple remaster and a smaller-scale extra, it seems likely the game has made a pretty tidy profit.

As far as officially released numbers reveal, Sonic X Shadow Generations appears to have outsold the original Sonic Generations, which SEGA stated had sold 1.85 million around five months after launch. The real figure is likely to be a bit higher of course.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not a massive fan of Sonic Generations — the Shadow Generations campaign is easily my favourite part of the package. It improves upon the Sonic Frontiers gameplay formula and the result is the best the franchise has ever felt in 3D, in my opinion.

Anyway, it seems the game has done rather well for itself. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next for SEGA's mascot.
