Screen Burn promised it would be addressing the worst enemy encounter in Silent Hill: Townfall, and boy has it in a new PS5 patch available now.

The Weight, a monster that stalks you in a few sections and has an instant one-hit kill attack, has been heavily nerfed in the update. As per the developer, these are the changes it's made to the enemy in patch 1.4:

  • Grab attacks now deal heavy damage instead of causing instant death on Story Mode and Normal difficulties.
  • Searching behaviors have been improved to prevent The Weight from ‘camping’ in front of the player’s objective for long periods of time.
  • Searching behaviors have been improved to prevent The Weight from repeatedly searching the same location and remaining there for long periods of time.
  • Hunting behaviors have been improved to prevent The Weight from tracking the player too aggressively.

These are all significant updates that change the amount of damage The Weight deals when it grabs you as well as how it stalks the player. Its single grab attack is no longer a one-hit kill; now it deals heavy damage.

In addition, if you hide from The Weight in a cabinet or behind a door, it shouldn't camp outside the immediate area anymore. It shouldn't search your general location over and over again, and the tracking has been softened so it should now be easier to get away if you're spotted.

Update 1.4 also makes the puzzle I struggled massively with during the pre-launch review phase easier, which happens to be in an area where The Weight stalks you as well. It's the puzzle near the end of the game where you have to press the correct buttons in the right sequence to activate valves.

Now, a collectible manual has been placed near the puzzle that acts as a reference for what each button means, and can be viewed while you're interacting with the panel. This is something the puzzle sorely needed, because without it, it's just all a bit baffling.
