I want to be 110% clear before we properly get into this article: ANOMALITH channels classic Resident Evil, but it’s nowhere near as good. Don’t go into this demo expecting Capcom quality, because you won’t get it.

That said, this scrappy little survival horror shooter reminds me of the original Resident Evil Revelations in a positive way – it’s got that simplistic, mindless kinda feel to it which I sometimes appreciate.

If you haven’t heard of the game, it’s an upcoming third-person shooter from FuRyu, which fuses vaguely anime aesthetics with Control-esque anomalies.

I’ll admit, I blitzed through a lot of the dialogue in the demo because save data doesn’t transfer and I’ll probably end up trying the review copy, so I didn’t want to see it all twice.

But as I understand, you play as a character called Reona Minazuki who clearly has supernatural capabilities. In addition to shooting enemies in traditional third-person shooter-style, you can also parry their attacks and strike them with a kind of claw attack.

One cool mechanic is that you can exchange HP for MP by inflicting pain on yourself, so hopefully the full game plays with this, and tempts you to play on the edge of death in order to progress.

Judging by the key art, our protagonist is going to be battling some demons throughout this campaign – quite literally. It looks like her body is going to morph and change as she succumbs to her powers.

You can download the demo now from the PS Store and try it for yourself – it’s a little under 15GB in size – ahead of the full game’s release on 29th October.

I’m not expecting miracles from this one really, but it strikes me that there’s something here – especially if you’re a fan of low-budget horror shooters.
