Thanks a new sales report from SEGA, we now have renewed insight into how popular the Persona series is on a global scale.

As covered by Persona Central, the publisher's actually broken down the percentage of sales — across all Persona games — per region, and the data makes for an interesting conversation.

As it stands, North America is now the franchise's biggest market, making up roughly 40% of sales. Europe counts for another 20%, meaning that the majority of Persona's modern success is thanks to the western world.

The remaining 40% of sales is split evenly between Japan and the rest of Asia.

This is obviously the inverse of how things used to be — not just for Persona, but for Japanese gaming properties in general.

Until Persona 5 came along, the series was niche across the US and Europe, and Atlus relied on a healthy Japanese audience to fund its overseas efforts. This was a time when we here in the west had to wait months, sometimes years for the games to be localised.

With this data in mind, it's assumed that Persona 6 — rumoured to launch next year — will enjoy a global release. It'll be the first ever mainline Persona title to be granted one.

The report also reveals that Persona 3-related sales have topped 5 million, while Persona 4-related sales are at 5.7 million. Persona 4 Revival will no doubt push the latter well beyond the 6 million mark.

For comparison, Persona 5-related sales sit at a mighty 13 million.

Did you think you'd ever see the day when Persona would sell best outside of Japan? Turn the tables in the comments section below.
