Publisher and developer RedOctane has announced a release date for Stage Tour, its spiritual successor to Guitar Hero.
The plastic instrument rhythm title hits PS5 on 10th December, 2026, squeaking in just before Christmas.

Stage Tour is essentially a new Guitar Hero game; you play it using a new suite of instrument peripherals, including guitars, microphones, and a drum set, and it features a lengthy list of licensed music to play along to.

As notes come down the screen, you need to hold the right frets and strum at the right time to score points. It's the exact same setup as Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
The game will comprise over 90 songs, including tracks from the likes of Metallica, Paramore, Black Eyed Peas, Blink-182, Muse, Fall Out Boy, The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, Genesis, Mötley Crüe, and Radiohead. Sounds pretty stacked.
On top of that, you'll be able to collect hundreds of licensed in-game instruments based on real world brands like Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer.
It really does appear to be the grand return of this type of rhythm game, so if you're nostalgic for the Guitar Hero glory days, this will probably be worth picking up.

With how things are today compared to the guitar hero days, expect this to come with 8 songs, and another 250 to buy separately.
I wasn't sure about the Celebrity Death Match looking characters but Billy Talent, Static X, Metallica, Megadeth, Mötley Crüe, Ghost, Bad (bleeping) Omens, The Clash, Mastodon, Rise Against. Those are all great bands and if they can introduce a new generation to the music then I'm all for it.

How long are the songs licensed??? When do they disappear since we own nothing?

@GirlVersusGame hahahahaha they sure look like Celebrity Death Match characters, I have been wanting to play GH3 again for a long time but the characters of this game are not convincing me.
@Krlozgod I still play Warriors of Rock and sometimes Metallica, I like Guitar Hero 3 because it had Slayer 'raining blood' and a good mix of other songs, the bonus songs were good too. The Fall of Troy, In Flames even one of my first Screamo bands Senses Fail got featured, I'm just waiting for one of those games to add some Underoath.
I never played Guitar Hero and the only Rock Band game I played was Unplugged on PSP. Still think this is a cool announcement, a nice blast from the past. Doubt it'll sell particularly well but hope it finds enough of an audience.
@GirlVersusGame I remember listening to F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. For the first time playing that game and loving the song. And I just discovered it was DLC for Rock Band 4.
@Krlozgod The timing was a little funny but music and Metal is a kind of second oxygen. So many people told me that they found a whole list of bands through those games, Metal doesn't really market itself, it doesn't have to. Those games are a very big exception, I mentioned over the weekend that Jimmy Page said that people should learn a real instrument instead of strumming some plastic. Most Metal bands won't sign their material over to a game unless they really believe in the game and in the delivery. Unlike other genres it's not about the money, only the music.

I got every guitar from PS2, PS3 and PS4, so I'm expecting a new guitar at PS5.

I was interested in this but what's really caught my eye is that they will be releasing an adapter that will allow you to connect your own E drum kit to the game. That's brilliant!

Guitar Hero 3 Legends Of Rock was fantastic for solo play. Great set list, great downloads for decent price. (Foo Fighters and Feeder spring to mind), and all round great fun.
Plus, you will never forget the first time you 100% Dragonforce's Through The Fire And The Flames.
