Activision has announced its annual beta for the next Call of Duty title, this year being Modern Warfare 4, shall begin for those who pre-order on 21st August 2026. Five days of access will be provided, at which point the beta will go down for a few days and then return available to everyone from 28th August.
Here's what those beta periods look like:
- Early Access
- 21st August — 25th August
- Open Beta
- 28th August — 1st September

It appears that the exact contents of the beta period will be detailed at a later date, because today's blog post provides more of a broad description:
Get ready to drop into multiple Multiplayer maps and modes, choosing from a wide selection of brand-new Operators, including all the Vault Edition Operators for players who pre-order the Vault Edition, and unlocking as many as 19 different weapons before deploying into everything from small-scale 3v3 skirmishes to massive tactical battles featuring tanks and more. Test your mettle across new and returning modes, from Search & Destroy to the brand-new Kill Block, plus the Training Mobility Course.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 comes to PS5 (this is the first year without a PS4 version) on 23rd October 2026, giving you enough time to play its single player and online modes before GTA 6 arrives.

No thanks, I’m not falling for that one again!
I will, in fact, be checking it out.
I’ll be making sure to get a little taster of it with the partner, and then no doubt playing it like I always do each year haha.
Hope all those want to play it go on to have a blast!
Yeah, no thanks. Just go away.
Not gonna lie - I'm in. Everyone loves to hate on this franchise, but there's a reason it's one of the best selling franchises of all time and can afford to have multiple studios working to put out yearly releases. I, for one, can admit I thoroughly enjoy it, buy it every year and play it all year long (off & on).
Niet! Nein! Non! I mean how many more no’s do you need
@GamingGod More than you can provide, buddy! I'm gonna be all over this one.
No thanks in done with call of duty now especially if it's the super serious modern warfare series!
Black ops 6 was the best title in the last decade probably!
I really enjoyed that game!
I'll play 4 since I loved the gameplay of 2019 and 2022, but I'm sad it's goingnin the faster route instead of sticking to the slow and tactical gameplay it use to have.
The bar was so low with Black Ops 7 that Modern Warfare 4 is almost certain to be a hit.
I enjoy Modern warfare so paying attention to this
@wildcat_kickz well done 👏 enjoy 😄
Nice. Gives me a reason too preorder then
Funny how you hop on to NL and they are all over this compared to here.
Switch 2 is getting the beta 2 days before ps5
@ButteredCrumpet No offence to any SW2 users but I couldn't think of a worse platform to play a FPS on....
@Oram77 Haha, I totally get that, for me after owning the Portal, I'm down for giving it a go on the Switch 2. I love the idea of relaxing a bit on the sofa or something to a quick game or two. For me more than anything it's the jumping between the logos for the buttons on the devices that throws me!
I just wish Marathon was on the Switch 2, as if I hop into it again and mesh with it I could actually have it portable, which is appealing for the garden and sofa etc.
Totally agree though, not the prime way to play!
Pre-ordered a while back on Amazon. Will be cancelling as soon as I get my beta code.
I'll wait for the full release
@Mr-Cage and yet it’s still worse than black ops 1 -3
I have never been a COD player and never will.
@nomither6 Well considering how old they are I'd argue in my opinion anyways black ops 6 is the best but different strokes
Nah I've already played it thanks
