5 Years Later, Cyberpunk Shooter The Ascent Confirms Major PS5 Update as Dev Teases Sequel

Really, really enjoyed this. Definitely recommend if you havent tried it.

I played The Ascent and enjoyed it a lot. It has great visuals and decent story telling. The combat is strong but the loot and abilities felt less satisfying. Also, the story is mediocre.

I wonder how a sequel will improve on what the team has created in the first game.

I forgot to mention the banging soundtrack. I listened to it even outside of the game. Both the soundtrack and the game really nails the sci-fi cyberpunk vibe.

Haha funny this Games is on my ps5 drive since years but beside some short testing I did not play it further so far. Ok then wait for this update and play it somewhen later.

Incredible game, its a shame their upcoming one isn't the same but who knows.

Really enjoyed this one! Perfect podcast/audiobook type of game. Glad they're still finding ways to improve it

@SystemAddict I haven't played Cyberpunk 2077 yet, but I guess The Ascent offers a more simpler and easier to approach gameplay, where Cyberpunk 2077 is a bigger "commitment" and might overwhelmed some players.

Hope we get a native 4K/60 fps patch on consoles. Let’s see the great visuals really shine!

It's a really good game. But late November? hmmnn.

I really liked the game but my first blind playthrough was such a mess, a beginners guide really helped me avoid making the same mistakes on the second attempt. I don't mind a brutal difficulty spike when I'm built to handle it, I wasn't. Great soundtrack too, it introduced me to a lot more midtempo music. I hope enough people got to experience it when it was on Plus+

@springer17 I had a couple of crashes at the start of the game, as I progressed they fizzled out. Halls of Torment was the same, crashes at the start and then things calmed down. Though I still need to start the DLC so who knows.

I remember playing this on game pass and good lord it was completely broken, for a good while

Game was fine, but really only that. It was repetitive as hell and got tedious after 10 hours. Meaning, half-way through, it just gets boring with little development to keep you playing. I played it co-op and still couldn't finish it, but this update might convince me to try and put it to rest, at least.

@TrollOfWar I was def overwhelmed by the whole thing, not just the initial fiasco that left a sour taste I didn’t like the general style of it either not least the menus were nasty but here we are with No Law and even now an Ascent sequel! All good

I don't recall any instances of it crashing for me but have def experienced it in another game (Starfield) when others did not. Regardless, that sucks for anyone who experienced the crashing because this is a really great game. I stopped playing Cyberpunk and preferred this one. This put Neon Giant on the map for me in a huge way. Looking forward to more!!!

Interesting, my prevailing memory of that game is that it was really lacking polish.

For example, you can equip cosmetic armor sets, but the game gives you a "cinematic" camera angle of your character in a shop where sometimes your character is so distant they're hard to see and other times they are obscured by scenery or props in the shop. Similarly the shops are under such extreme colored lighting that it makes picking colors near impossible.

It's like the developers checked a box for "put armor customization in the game" with being bothered to consider whether it was the least bit useable. It's like why put in the effort at all then?

By itself that's minor, but that sort of exemplifies a lot of what's wrong with the game. Ostensibly a complete game, but it needed better "editing" as you might say if it were a movie or show.

I'd completely forgotten about this one and only started playing shortly before it was removed from PS Plus Extra, but what I played I really enjoyed.

It'd be a nice addition to PS Plus Essential, especially with these upcoming QoL changes, and would potentially help encourage sales of any paid expansions if that's the way the devs are going.

Great game, unfortunately full of bugs when it comes to multiplayer. We were not able to finish it.

@D6rkLordS6t6n I had that with a game called Maneater, you play a shark and eat people/things. On the original PS5 it always crashed for me at the starter area, I never got through it. Then on the Pro it crashed on the second area. Some said the same thing, others said it was fine. The Ascent definitely crashed for me at the start, on both systems. I think the DLC did too, but not as often. One of the worst was Fallout Primal, without fail fast-travel resulted in a crash, as did cutscenes. I think it was some kind of conflict with Uplay because as soon as I found a way to disable that nonsense I could play the game. Anno was even wilder. There was no way to disable auto-save so the game was constantly saving all of that data, hitting some kind of limit and then instantly locking my saves. They'd vanish, people didn't know because they didn't put enough hours into the game to find out. It's never been fixed leaving that game playable, up to a point, then all of the data vanishes.

Halls of Torment is a great little Vampyre Survivors|like but the 'is it going to crash now? or now?' really doesn't help. It didn't help with The Ascent either, nor did my broken build but it's kind of crazy how a studio can put a game on the store, people report those crashes when the prompt pops up and months even years later nothing was done about it.

@Northern_munkey Actually did you experience many crashes with Halls or Torment or it's DLC? I think it was you who I first saw mention the game. I bought that Witch Tree game you mentioned over the weekend too. The trailer was all it took, it needs so much more exposure.

@springer17 disable your network connection in the playstation settings before you launch the game and it will boot. Speaking from experience

@GirlVersusGame I've not experienced any crashes on halls of torment so I guess I've been lucky. I hope you enjoy mandragora as much as I am. Its an awesome game.

@springer17 ah right. Yeah I had the same as well. Liked the game but never finished because of these issues
