The Ascent Update Sequel

First released in 2021 for Xbox and PC, before hitting PS5 roughly a year later, The Ascent is celebrating its fifth anniversary today.

If you've never played it, The Ascent is a bombastic twin-stick RPG-shooter set in a bustling cyberpunk world. It's solid in terms of gameplay, but it's really the game's overall aesthetic and brutal tone that carries the experience.

Anyway, developer Neon Giant has revealed that a big new update is in the works. We don't have all of the details yet, but it sounds like it could make sweeping changes to the game's quality of life.

The press release reads: "The upcoming update will bring a smoother more dependable experience for solo and co-op players, including improvements to co-op teleportation, the encounter system, save-game reliability and player-progression reliability."

However, the update is actually pencilled in for this November — so we've still got a good few months to wait.

Interestingly, Neon Giant's celebrations don't stop there. The team also confirms that it has plans to expand The Ascent in the future. It teases "new platforms, genres, and future sequels".

And remember, the Swedish studio is currently developing No Law — an open world cyberpunk action RPG that's shown serious promise up until now.

Still, it's all positive news if you're a fan of The Ascent. Have you blasted through this one? Might this update push you to try the game out? Put down some gangs in the comments section below.
