Much has been made of the extremely busy release schedule for the remainder of 2026, with September and October being particularly stacked.
Among the games launching in late September is Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom's promising action title. It's currently pencilled in for 25th September 2026, close to several other games.
However, some are questioning whether that release timing may change, and rather than a delay, it might arrive sooner than expected.
This stems from a Canadian retailer called PNP Games, which listed Way of the Sword with a release date of 4th September 2026 — a full three weeks earlier than the current official date.

Potentially adding more fuel to the fire is the fact the listings for the game have since been removed, the implication being that they were made public too soon.
I'm not fully convinced, if I'm being honest — this could just as easily be a mistake, and the media coverage has alerted PNP to it, hence the removal of the pages.
Having said that, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Way of the Sword exit the ultra-busy period in which it currently plans to launch.
When you also consider Pragmata was released earlier than planned, it gives some credence to the idea Capcom might do the same for the return of Onimusha.
What do you think? Is this game really launching three weeks sooner than we thought? Tell us in the comments section below.

I think all will be revealed at gamescom as Capcom have confirmed they are attending, all I care about is the RE9 DLC right now...
Of all things that almost never happen. Releasing a game early almost never happens the most.
Remedy being excited and Rebel Wolves cursing too themselves
@Oram77 need me some Jill
@BusyOlf I want more from all the legacy characters to be honest, I could Rebecca starring in Revelations 3!!
Going by the demo im gonna hold off, game was way too easy
Would probably be wise to release early
Also it'd make me happy and that's mainly what I care about
If the game could get itself out in August, the only potential competition it’d have is Beast of Reincarnation. Seriously, this summer is dry outside a bunch of first party Nintendo games.
That said, squaring off against just Dawnwalker might help Onimusha.
@Oram77 I think Capcom's main announcement at Gamescom will be Veronica releasing in February 2027 like how Gamescom 2025 revealed Requiem releasing in February 2026.
Would be cool to see a big budget game shadow drop. Considering how muxh is spent on marketing a game, i wonder how muxh of it is actually necrssary and this would be a cool experiment.
@tselliot I'd scoff at that too if the same company hadn't pushed forward a major release this year - they launched Pragmata a week early.
@Grumblevolcano I can easily see Veronica coming in Feb, but RE9 has sold really well this year so you would think they would like to sell more copies with the DLC announcement.
I would hope they could comfortably push it forward, and sales might benefit from the space. That said, I feel like most people are already decided about whether they're keen on it, or not, and what they're likely grabbing from the September buffet.
As long as it's ready and won't require a dozen patches to be playable.
Please don’t give me Onimusha a mere 2 weeks prior to Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC. These are the only new games I’m buying this year and if this happens I’ll have to pick one. Unfortunately, it won’t be Onimusha.
@Oram77 I think Capcom will pair RE9 DLC announcement with the release date for the Leon and Grace amiibo. Currently those amiibo are planned for release in Summer 2026.
It's so good to have onimusha back! Really want this to succeed. Getting myself ready by playing the hd remasters and rewatching that netflix anime.
Yes, please move something out of that weekend!
@BusyOlf the remakes line up looks like re: veronica , then re:0 , then re1, so it looks like we'll be getting more Jill eventually.
@tameshiyaku honestly i thought the ip was dead , but seeing them make a new game even bringing back dawn of dreams , i love to see it , just need a remaster of part 3.
I will get this before Wolverine if it comes to it. Capcom sold their souls to the Devil, it’s the only explanation for how incredible they e been lately.
@helloim_anthony I believe I read somewhere that the actual game will be much harder, but of course, still wait until that’s confirmed.
@helloim_anthony The difficulty was easy but what I found extremely off-putting was how weightless it felt. There was no weapon feedback at all.
@J2theEzzo I can see it doing well in the asian markets but I expect Dawnwalker to eat it's lunch in the West. The rest of the month I can see being completely dominated by Wolverine and Control.
@tameshiyaku I completely forgot about the anime! Is it any good?
And I've not played the older games since around launch, how have they aged?
@cainhurst94 Yeah, it's a tough crowd to stand out against. Still, I feel like I've been waiting all my life for a new Onimusha, so I think it's gonna have to be my pick.
@Hyena_socks the anime has its moments, but I wouldn't put it on a level with cyberpunk edge runners.
I find the hd remasters make the game well playable as they add an optional modern control scheme on other quality of life improvements. Generally I don't care if I go dubbed or subbed but I'd say go subbed with these games.
@twitchtvpat onimusha 3 HD is next! Looking forward to Jean Reno's nose in 4k crispness. And that opening cutscene from o3 is still one of the cooles cinematics in gaming history!
