This Ambitious PS5 Horror Game Is Keeping FMVs Alive in 2026 1

If you have any love for old school adventure games that combine traditional gameplay with FMV cutscenes, you need to check out Tenebris Somnia.

Clearly inspired by classics of the genre, this survival horror game combines pixel art adventure gameplay with full-on, live action sequences that look straight out of an indie horror flick.

Developer Saibot Studios cites games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill as inspiration, but layered on top are FMV scenes that progress the story and provide a whole new perspective on the game.

With real actors, a ton of practical effects work, and an award-winning film crew from Argentina, it seems the team is going all-out on this aspect of the production.

While the live action scenes look great, there's a distinctly 90s vibe to the whole game — it's a little schlocky but that's definitely part of the charm. I like the idea that you'll see monsters in their pixelated form come to life in the FMVs.

Story details are slim, but you'll basically be exploring a mysterious mansion full of nightmarish creatures, uncovering some no doubt horrible secrets.

Tenebris Somnia is scheduled for release on 16th October 2026 for PS5, meaning it's releasing at the perfect time for you to play over Halloween.
