Update []: Virtua Fighter Crossroads is shaping up to be the biggest and best Virtua Fighter yet when it launches in 2027.
As was teased during Summer Game Fest and subsequently unveiled during the above VF Showcase, this game features a massive single player story campaign, set in the fictional South East Asian city of Vilasapara.
The story’s been written by Ghost of Tsushima’s Brad Kane, with oversight from David Hayter.
It revolves around four characters, with Cielo being the star and new face of Virtua Fighter Crossroads, replacing Akira.

As you can see from the video, this is a full-blown action-adventure game, with side-quests and different plot threads. Battles leverage the game’s combat system, although you may find yourself up against two or more enemies at once.
Don’t worry if you’re a traditionalist because Virtua Fighter’s versus mode is built on the foundations of the franchise as well.
You can catch a ton of gameplay footage, featuring Pai Chan, Wolf, and newcomer Cielo as part of the VF Showcase. Actually, you may recall some of this video somehow leaked last month, prematurely revealing the name of the game.
I think this looks great, and as a big fan of Street Fighter 6’s World Tour, I’m really looking forward to the story mode. It’s great to see fighters begin to cater to single player gamers again, without losing the core competitive experience that gives these releases longevity.
Original Story:
A full-length Virtua Fighter Showcase will take place imminently, and I’ll bring you all the news from that in an updated article later.
But for now here’s a look at Virtua Fighter Crossroads’ cinematic story mode, introducing fan favourite character Pai Chan.
RGG Studio, the team behind the Yakuza games, is making this one, and its storytelling chops are on full display here.
Obviously this will be a separate mode to the main versus fighting, but it’s great to see SEGA putting some muscle behind Virtua Fighter again after so many years.

Cinematic story mode? Sold! Wishlisting on Deku Deals right now
Really hype for this after feel dissapointed with SF 6 season 4 DLC. Crossroads could be my main fighting game for the next 3-4 years.
Anyway. Finally VF get a proper story mode!
Looks like a great action game.
This is somewhere between Shenmue, SF6 WT mode and Yakuza...and that's a beautiful place.
Looks incredible! RGG cooked this show!
Nice. If the story mode is at least around 8 hours long, I am interested. Not into versus fighting games much any more. Will leave that part to my kids.
Forgot to say, i hope RGG not add some weird guest characters like SF 6 and Tekken 8 did. Well, i can tolerate if it's Kiryu, Ryo, or someone from Fighting Vipers.
I love that fighting games are including more SP content these days.
@PuppetMaster Remember Tekken 3 had Gon and SC2 for Gamecube had Link. Weird guest characters in fighting games is pretty standard.
@DennisReynolds Sure it's a standard practice but doesn't mean i must like it. Beside, VF never have a guest character and i hope this new game stay that way.
VF is going more boldly than I thought they would.
Was already very excited for new Virtua Fighter but this is absolutely brilliant. Story mode looks so great! And Versus mode looks brutal!
One of my most anticipated for 2027 already.
@get2sammyb Instead of making a fighting game with an attached story mode, RGG made an adventure game with a fighting game mode in it
So looking forward to this.It looks really good.
I check Ghost of Tsushima credit list and i didn't find "Brad Kane" name as one of the main writer among Ian Ryan, Liz Albl, Patrick Downs, and Jordan Lemos. I guess he's just an additional writer. But really happy this time they put a proper story mode.
I hope in the story mode i can play as Akira, Lion, Shun-di, Goh, Jacky, and Jean.
Although, i still don't get if this game a reboot or not. Where's Sarah and why they said Stella isn't Sarah?
All I hope is it’s better than SF 6 godawful “story” mode
"The story’s been written by Ghost of Tsushima’s Brad Kane"
Ah, so it's gonna suck. Too bad.
