Scarlet Nexus Sales Sequel

Scarlet Nexus has just topped 2 million sales, almost five whole years after its release in 2021.

Previously, it was reported that the title had sold 1 million copies in its first year, so it's managed to gradually double that number in the time that's followed.

Obviously, a lot of those sales will have been down to discounts and the like; just looking up some PS Store data, it's had its price slashed on numerous occasions, dropping as low as $19.99 / £14.99.

It's also worth noting that it never received any ports that would have added an extra chunk of sales down the line. It didn't end up on Nintendo Switch, and it was available on PC via Steam from day one.

I think Scarlet Nexus makes for a fairly interesting study. It was a brand new IP with some cool ideas, but it just never seemed to stick.

Reviews were solid across the board, but I always felt as though the marketing was a bit lacklustre.

Especially here in the west, Bandai Namco tried to avoid the game's anime tone and style — as evidenced by the comparatively crappy box art:

Anyway, Scarlet Nexus is making headlines again — and that can only mean one thing. Yep, its most ardent fans have reappeared, questioning whether it'll ever receive a sequel.

And to be fair, I think a sequel could be great. As mentioned, the game's got a lot of cool ideas, and conceptually, it's somewhat unique, combining a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world with the flair of psychic warriors fighting against unknowable nightmare monsters.

Both Scarlet Nexus' gameplay and its storytelling drag long before the credits roll, and so a sequel could add some necessary depth and nuance.

But will it ever happen? Well, it clearly didn't set the world alight in terms of sales — and the title was, as far as I know, relatively expensive to produce — but it does feel like the kind of original IP that Bandai Namco could be tempted to revisit.

In a world where Code Vein can get a sequel, I think Scarlet Nexus probably deserves similar treatment. Although the former did shift 4 million copies...
