Netflix's Highly Successful Devil May Cry Series Will Return for One Final Season

Yet word of mouth for the series is absolutely terrible. Interesting. I also saw an interview with mr. Shankar where he basically said hes the savior of the series. Lets just say I'm not scrambling to watch it.

Is this guy a troll or is he this full of himself? Season 2 was better than the first, but it's still a nonsensical mashup of elements from all the games. At least the animation was well done.

Thank goodness. What an absolute trash fire this series was.

Publishers need to be more careful of who they hand their IPs to.

So far i've watched until eps 3 and it's interesting how they make Arius a bit more compelling / smarter villain compare to the game without changing much of his character.

I kinda dig the way they mixed DMC 1, 2, and 3 story plot but with it's own twist.

And so far the animations looks good, i think better than season 1.

A Netflix show that gets more than 2 series? Pretty much unheard of these days! The reason I’m watching a loaf of shows from the 90s and early 2000s at the moment.

Wouldn’t a “generational talent” get more than three seasons?

As for the second season it is a bit of improvement compared to the first and I did enjoy parts of it but overall I'm glad I don't take this show seriously because it is very far from what I would consider a good example of 'worthy' extended media in the franchise.

@Shrek_Realista @Simu001 I think that just might be whatever online space you like to frequent. I have had multiple family members, friends, and co workers recommend the show to me. Personally I think it is just ok but to the casual audience, which is the larger audience, it does appear to be doing well. It has reviewed strongly from critics and has been in the Netflix top 10 for extended periods of time. The negativity you have seen appears to be another very vocal minority

As someone who actually watched season 1 & 2. They're pretty damn fun. 7/10 shows. Given DMC always had awful characters and plots, they've take a ton of liberties to adapt it for TV which has largely worked.

I do think they can reduce the number of needle drops for action sequences a bit though.

I like both seasons of DMC season 1 got better as it went along S2 was why better can't wait for S3

@4fold Animation usually has the seasons planned in advance as part of the deal. It's why Netflix animation shows usually go on for 3-5 seasons. the first three are planned and the last two are added based on success and cost.

Season 1 was trash. Season 2 was even worse. So yeah. Sure "Highly succesful". Third season makes sense. Also the guy behind the series seem like such a arrogant a-hole. Like he is the best at making series and pretending everything he does is perfect. Series is an absolute joke. Taking everything that make DMC, well DMC, and turning it into a complete joke. And yes. I have seen both seasons, unfortunately.

Lol. Or he just got a huge Netflix budget and a well established IP that literally did all the work for him. The animation was the best part. Every character could have had zero dialogue and there been no story and the series still would have been just as good. I certainly don’t regret watching it. I thought it was good enough for what it is. But it’s nowhere in the vicinity of great anime that will ever be remembered.

Successful doesn't mean good. This show got at least two seasons too many.

@PuppetMaster the thing that surprises me about the criticism is people acting like the plot of the games (any Capcom game if we are honest) is high art, and any change is destroying the sanctity of it.

@cainhurst94 Ikr. I like, what on earth these people complaining about the story? DMC never have good story plot and dialogues or complex characters development. People plays DMC because they want to slash demons with cool combos / actions. So it's okay to do some changes here and there to fit for a tv series.

@For-Kier What if One Punch would have had a decent amount of backing if we only could have had something near the quality of Season 1 i would have accepted season 2 quality.

@4fold Not like really its a massive IP already even smaller unknown series get a third. If you would fail with something as big Devil May Cry that would be quite the failure.

@Flaming_Kaiser Exactly, it really turned me off the guys work. Even if it were true its just such an egotistical thing to say. In the case of DMC it's blatantly false considering that DMC 5 came out before it and brought not only one of the best DMC experience but also (arguably) brought back capcom to its current height.

Season 1 was meh, but season 2 was siiiiick. Binge-watched it at 2x speed (1x during fight scenes).

Big fan of the games (finished all of them but DMC 2), yet I do think that Shankar’s adaption is superior on the big screen. I always played the games for the stylish gameplay and cutscenes. Story in the games was mostly mid (except DMC 5). Shankar does a much better job fleshing out Dante and Vergil as complex characters and why they drift apart.

If season 3 is going to be even better, can’t wait! For anyone triggered by Adi - ragebait feeds the algorithm. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. I would do the same in his shoes for the benefit of a project I am in charge of.

I would recommend the Netflix series to everyone - but only if there was a way to see a condensed S1 (it only got good towards the end). Otherwise, you almost have to force yourself to…
