Mature, Story-Driven Star Trek Game Sets Phasers to Fun on PS5 1

An edgy new Star Trek game from industrious Polish dev Bloober Team has been confirmed for the PS5 in 2027.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is described as a “mature, story-driven, third-person action-adventure set in the expansive Star Trek universe”.

Playing as Ro Laren, you’ll find yourself trapped on a planet “overtaken by a strange consciousness”.

The press release says:

“In true Star Trek fashion, Ro’s mission is driven by duty and purpose. But here, discovery comes at a terrible cost. The more she uncovers, the deeper she is pulled into a corrupted labyrinth where her memories twist and the planet threatens to sever her connection to reality.”

The blurb says that the planet itself has been weaponised by a “mysterious entity”, and that each encounter will “test your resolve as much as your skill”.

Fortunately, you’ll have access to all kinds of Star Trek technology to progress: “Use your Tricorder to scan and analyze items and rely on your trusty Phaser to solve puzzles and fend off enemies.”

All of the supporting information around this is very clear: this is a new kind of Star Trek – “mature and psychological”.

Bloober Team is obviously extremely busy these days, working on multiple different projects, including a Silent Hill 1 Remake and more. But its recent releases have all been good, and even though I’m not a Trekkie myself, I am intrigued by the direction being taken here.
