Koei Tecmo Just Can't Stop Making Action RPGs, Announces Wo Long 2 for PS5

Wo Long had very unique global stamina system, I hope it returns for the sequel. What it really does need is better storytelling. I mean, it isn't Team Ninja strongest suit, but Wo Long was exceptionally bad. Throughout the game I had no idea who am I, why some Chinese men are helping me and others are trying to kill me.

Really enjoyed the first Wo Long, hopefully the sequel will be just as good.

It's good. But it's nowhere near as good as Nioh.

Probably KT's best game set in china still.

Yeah Wo Long felt like Poundland Nioh, but I'll give it another whirl. I found Nioh 2 a lot more fun than the first one

Yep, I think it's finally happened... I've grown tired of their masocore souls-like formula. Haven't even been able to get through the first area of Nioh 3 - and not for the difficulty. Just... tired.

I'm just hoping they don't make it too big like Nioh 3. Quality over quantity.

Nice. I really liked the first game. Didn’t expect we’d get a sequel to it, though.

I usually like Soulslikes - and contrary to what some say, its a very, very under represented genre. But I just bounced off the demo for the 1st game hard.

Hopefully they will do a new demo for this 2nd outing, and I will give it another try.

@Yor-sama I wouldn't call Wo Long a Soulslike, the only thing it shares is the death system. Otherwise the gameplay is completely different. Stamina doesn't even work the same.

But I'm burnout by Team Ninja after how disappointing both Rise of the Robin and Nioh 3 were. The asset reuse is ridiculous at this point.

I would say Soulslikes are very over-represented nowadays. However I wouldn't call this a Soulslike but I don't trust Team Ninja anymore as both Rise of the Robin and Nioh 3 were very disappointing and it seems they're still trying to pursue the open world formula even though they're not good at it. It looks like they're still using their antiquated katana engine too so I expect this to look like a PS3 game but with worst pop in than a PS2 game.

I struggle to find more than 1 Quality Soulslike per year these days - but have no issue in other game types I enjoy, hence why I believe it is thoroughly under represented.

I'm not sure how I would classify Wo Long, but I do agree that a big part of the problem is people classing action adventure games as Soulslikes incorrectly. It is also sadly a category which gets a fair few lower tier games.

Edit: fixed my first sentence which previously made little sense because I mixed up my words.

Played wo long fairly recently and loved it, feel like it doesn't get the recognition it deserves, I liken it to the sekiro of the nioh world, great to see it get a sequel.

@Yor-sama You don't need to buy these games, but for people like me this is like being a little kid again just before christmas. Day one for sure!!
I LOVE the Nioh and Wo Long games. All of them!

That was the world's most generic trailer. But I guess it didn't need to do more. As a sequel players already know if they're going to love it.

@ThomasHL To be fair, while their games are great their trailers have always been a little "stiff" and generic. But it is what it is.

I just don't care about Chinese Mythology games anymore, so oversaturated.

Kind of surprising since I thought Wo Long didn't do too well commercially.

I'll happily take a sequel since I enjoyed the first, although not as much as the Nioh games.

@Yor-sama You're free to have your opinion but if they are not for you, why waste energy thinking about them? Play games that look "different" and fun and let the rest of us who enjoy their games play them? *

• And if that came across as "too grumpy" let me clarify: I don't play games like Fifa or any sportgame for that matter, do I go into an article and comment "they all look the same, they have the same boring gameplay etc?, no I know they sell millions and people enjoy them, I play other games like Nioh, Wo Long, Path Of Exile 1 & 2 and so on. I don't need to bring my negative thinking to those forum-threads with people that enjoy them alot, I keep to the games I play and if I criticize them, it's because I want them to be better. But to say " they all look the same" isn't that. They sold around 18 million I think of Nioh 1-3 and Wo Long sold 2 millions or so. They wont change their look and style, because they sell, not to you maybe, but they sell.
  

@Yor-sama I totally get that, I just said they wont change, they have 2 teams, main team does Nioh games at the moment and their "B" team is making Wo Long and Rise Of the Ronin.
And I guess they keep doing them for the next coming years at least.
