Toei's Trio of First Games Hold Little Value for PS5 Players 1

Toei Games, the newly established publisher formed under the animation powerhouse’s umbrella, has announced its first trio of games.

Is it a new One Piece? Or a new Dragon Ball? Nah, actually there’s nothing of interest for PS5 players here.

In fact, it looks like the company is aiming to become some kind of boutique publisher of indie games, and that’s certainly reflected in its lineup.

All three games are currently only targeting PC, although the company has said it plans to expand to consoles eventually.

Here’s all of the information, reported on and translated by Gematsu:

KILLA

KILLA is a 3D adventure mystery with multiple endings. Valhalla, our protagonist, seeks the killer of her mentor, a mentor she treasures like family, venturing to an unknown island. Discover the culprit on this enigmatic island and embark on a journey of revenge.

Set in a nightmarish, dark, and fantastical puppet show world, KILLA is a mystery adventure. The player must use their “resonance” ability to delve into the suspects’ memories and piece together fragments of dreams to weave together the truth.

Who is the “La” who killed her mentor? The curtain rises now on this beautifully cruel stage.

Hino

Join Hino and the whimsical Monimoni Skeleton as they traverse a shadow-cloaked world in this atmospheric 2D dark fantasy adventure.

Illustrated in ballpoint pen by the artist Yatara, the world of Hino comes to life as a game. In a shadow-drenched realm overrun by eerie monsters, the red-ribboned Hino and the quirky white Monimoni Skeleton set out on a journey in search of a safe haven. It is in your hands to guide them to that place of peace.

Through lands crawling with monsters and traps, you will uncover a single truth behind the creation of this dark world. When that truth is revealed, your choices will decide which of the many endings their journey will reach.

DEBUG NEPHEMEE

DEBUG NEPHEMEE is a top-down 2D adventure game set in a place called “Nepherum.”

Here, the world is infested with bugs who inhabit creatures called Nephemees.

Through a unique battle system based on each Nephemees values and philosophies, you will attack and hack opponents to find traces of their personalities and memories.

Encounter a colorful cast of characters and get to know them deeply, as you embark on a journey to “Debug” the world.

Certainly this is a unique and interesting selection of games, but we’re not entirely sure what Toei’s play is here. With the deepest of respect, dozens of titles just like these release every single week.

Perhaps the company is hoping to become a new Annapurna Interactive of sorts – a kind of taste maker using its marketing muscle to help spotlight the best of the best.

For now, though, this isn’t really what we expected from Toei Games. There’s certainly no interest here for PS5 players until it expands its operations to console.
