4A Games will confirm the next entry in its Metro franchise, titled Metro 2039, in an Xbox First Look livestream later this week, it's been announced.
The showcase will be streamed on YouTube and takes place on Thusday, 16th April 2026 at the following times:
- North America: 10am PDT / 11am MDT / 12pm CDT / 1pm EDT
- UK/Ire: 6pm BST
- Europe: 7pm CEST / 8pm EEST
- Asia/Oceania: 2am (Fri) JST / 1am (Fri) AWST / 3am (Fri) AEST
The Xbox Wire post sharing the news simply states: "This will be the fourth mainline entry from 4A Games in the series based on the iconic novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, following Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013), and Metro Exodus (2019), all of which tell the stories of survivors of nuclear devastation living in the Moscow subway tunnels and the world that surrounds them."
While the reveal is tied to an Xbox event, Metro 2039 is still expected to launch on PS5. Every entry in the series to date has released on PlayStation, so assume a multi-platform release here.
If you want to get caught up on all the games before Metro 2039 comes out, the Metro Saga Bundle, which comes with Metro Redux and Metro Exodus, is on sale now for just £4.99 / $5.99 until 22nd April 2026. That gives you access to all three instalments so far.

I wonder the level of graphics they would be pushing in this cause Exodus already looks sooo good.
Great news for people who love shooters where the shooting is the worst part of the game
@PercyChuggs I actually thought the shooting/controls were really crisp in Exodus.
@TheArt I'm pretty excited for this, seriously talented engineering wizards and artists over there, brilliant series too
I hope Artyom is a more engaging protagonist this time around. The way he stays silent while his wife and companions talk to him for really annoying in Exodus.
The Metro games are great, looking forward to this.
Genuinely thought Exodus was a beautiful ending for the series but I would never say no to more. Exodus was a bit of a technical mess when I played it but it really resonated with me in every other way. 2033 is a classic too, only Last Light was a little bit of a disappointment for me.
I own all three games, but haven't beaten any. I've gotten through a decent amount of 2033, though.
I really need to get back to this series. The premise is crazy good and the vibes in what I've played are excellent.
@pyrrhic_victory 100% agree with you, he has always been the weakest part of the games
Seriously? We're announcing the reveal of a reveal?
I need to get back to playing those. I loved Metro 2033, but then barely played the second one and haven't touched Exodus. Maybe it's time for a full playthrough of the series
Weird enough I played through the first two Metro games after hearing so much about the atmosphere, tone and mood etc and I was extremely underwhelmed. Doesn't help that it's a bore in regards to story when compared to the books depth. Absolutely didn't like it. I saw a playthrough of Exodus since again it was praised to high heaven and once again the story just didn't work for me.
I really wanna like this series but it’s been a mess for me. I played 2033 like a decade after it released so it played awful. I loved Last Light and hated Exodus. The reasons I hated Exodus were because the game was a blurry mess on PS4, frame rate was never stable when I needed to shoot, and I encountered a bug where I needed to go through a vent but it was bugged so I couldn’t progress, even after reloading my save. That bug caused me to drop the game entirely. I wanna give it another try since they released the PS5 version years ago but eh, so little time these days.
Loved exodus and the VR entry they released was also brilliant. Looking forward to see more of this.
@PercyChuggs Thank you, legitimately can't believe how bad these games play on a controller, yet they're praised to the moon and back.
People have been talking about this for the last couple of weeks on Vkontakte, I was waiting for it to pop up again in Western news sites/articles. I've been hearing very good things, there aren't many games that cover such familiarity so I'm always interested in a new Metro game. I mainly played them on PC but I've tried them on console and they weren't bad. I tend to avoid shooters but for this and Stalker/Tarkov I make an exception, Смерть шпионам too. I'd like to see the fourth one come to console, I've been following the Developer diaries for code name RedWolf. It's a kind of Hitman/SniperElite, in some ways I prefer it to the former, so we'll see. Lots of games like that never see Western releases, Metro/Stalker are the exceptions.
N.i.c.e. i enjoy all the metro games. So that's good to hear about a new one.so it's all good.word up son
These games are always excellent.
@PercyChuggs Exactly. The game looked great, great atmoshphere. But the gameplay was dogmeat. The aiming could never get dialed in with settings and the input lag was terrible.
Can’t wait to see this at 8PM EET. Wait, what?
@Weebleman Me too. I absolutely loved playing in the Metro world in VR - it was probably my favourite game in the series.
YEEESSS!!!! I love Metro so much, I was just recently wondering when the next one was going to come out.
I do hope we get a new protagonist, let my man Artyom gets to retire, he deserves it with the wife!
