Alex is less sure of the biological relationship between his Mum and adopted father Tom in a new Street Fighter 6 update.
Capcom promised it’d make the wrestler’s backstory less incestuous in a patch, and now we can appreciate the changes.
In the original version, Alex described his adopted father Tom as “a cousin of my Mum and a sparring buddy of my Dad”. That would make him related to his future wife, Patricia, the biological daughter of Tom.
But the new text makes the connection murkier, albeit not eliminated entirely. It reads: “He’s a distant relative of my Mum or something, and was a sparring buddy of my Dad.”

So Alex believes there may still be some kind of relation between Tom and his Mum, but he isn’t totally sure about it. He goes on to marry and impregnate Patricia all the same.
Another tweak mentions that Tom is “basically the Dad I needed”, where previously it mentioned he is Alex’s father. It’s always been the case that the character was adopted, but the rewording puts a bit of distance between the duo, attempting to make his relationship with Patricia less odd.
Capcom released some additional lore on its website earlier this year, explaining that Alex left home at a young age, which tries to sever the sibling ties between him and Patricia. But there’s still artwork in the game of him holding his future wife when she was a baby.
So yeah, the changes do make things a touch more palatable, but Capcom has written itself into a hole here. Without ripping up the whole thing and starting again, Alex’s morals are going to remain questionable to say the least.
