LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming very soon to PS5, launching on 22nd May 2026, and it looks like a very promising plastic superhero romp.
Its big hook is that it's a celebration of everything Batman, blending together elements from various stories to tell the broad-strokes tale of the caped crusader — in LEGO form.
That means it's packed to the rafters with references to the comic books, TV shows, feature films, and video games. Now, WB Games has revealed that a very recent, new iteration of the character is part of the fun too.

Absolute Batman is included as one of the outfits you can equip on your Bruce Wayne, and Catwoman's Absolute variant is also available.
For the uninitiated, Absolute Batman is a new spin on the character, written by Scott Snyder.
In this version of the Batman legend, Bruce Wayne is a blue collar worker by day, but a vigilante by night. Rather than inheriting his parents' fortune, this rendition of the character is strapped for cash, and makes his suit, armour, and equipment himself.
It's been a super popular new take on the superhero, so this will certainly go down well with the fans. It also means Legacy of the Dark Knight will be the debut of Absolute Batman away from the comics.

I saw that they recreated the scene from the 89 movie where the Joker and his goons destroy an art gallery complete with Prince's Party Man.
Not sure I like the idea of making Bruce Wayne destitute, it’s like saying superman isn’t from Krypton. Some things just are.
@themightyant Well the whole point of the Absolute universe is that its a universe created by Darkseid where evil and tyranny are winning. The question asked is can these heroes still be heroes despite them all having a massive change in origins.
Its actually a great series and its a big reason DC is killing it in sales as the Absolute series is very popular.
@themightyant It's an Elseworld series which the main selling point is the characters get different origins / story compare to the main continuity.
@Yousef- iirc, in the main continuity, Bruce Wayne also got poor after the Joker War storyline where Joker stolen $100 billion of Wayne ent. money and assets. He even lost his manor and batcave and forced to live in some dingy apartment or something but still suit up as Batman with very limited gadgets.
This looks like it'll be the best LEGO game in years!
I do like a good Lego game, the Star Wars one was simply magnificent and hopefully this will follow suit
Looking forward to this game so much! Love that these aren't DLC costumes.
@PuppetMaster @Yousef- @DennisReynolds Thanks for the added info guys. Sounds like it could be interesting if you like that sort of thing.
I guess I am a just a traditionalist that thinks it over complicates the whole by having 1000 different origin stories and constantly changing their characters and motivations. I’ve read a few comics that do that.
Sometimes it can be interesting - and maybe this is one of them, you make it sound good - but at some point you can lose who the character is. Personally I’d rather the authors just created their own character with interesting back stories at that point, but I understand that isn’t going to sell as well. Like games, comics are stuck on the same IP and endless sequels and they have to constantly change it up to try and keep it fresh.
Either way I’m looking forward to this games and it sounds like a cool addition for fans.
Wife and I are gonna play the absolute ***** outta this one.
@PuppetMaster You are the first person I've seen to mention Elseworlds. I mentioned it a couple of weeks or months ago when describing Gotham by Gaslight and I was surprised by how many people didn't know it. I've read maybe three volume collections, each one is different because of each I suppose universe? It's the best creative freedom I've seen like Batman Dracula, I love those books. It's easier to follow Elseworlds than some massive series of normal stories, except for maybe Court of Owls and some others.
@GirlVersusGame I personally loves Gotham by Gaslight. Probably one of the best Elseworld story for Batman that i ever read. I owned the TPB and also enjoyed the animated movie adaptation although i have mixed feeling with the way they changed Jack the Ripper identity.
And yes, Elseworlds aim towards people who wants to reads DC comics without having a headache of following the confusing main continuity. I really dislike the way DC or Marvel reboot the main series to number 1 or retcon some important lore every time they finished a big crossover storyline.
@themightyant I understand your feeling who prefers the status quo or one single main timeline over different origins / worlds. And It's much easier to follow one continuity over multiple timelines too.
Love the idea but wish it wasn't a lego game...
@themightyant I was thinking the same thing but I love the absolute stuff. I mean all of them are good. I think the weakest is absolute green latern in my opinion. Wonder woman raised in hell is awesome and Martian manhunter is like reading a said trip and have to really pay attention or you will be lost its just done really well.
