Skate Season 3 Looks Cool, But It May Be an Uphill Battle to Win Back Fans 1

Developer Full Circle has fully unveiled Season 3 for Skate, its free-to-play skateboarding game that's still in early access.

It looks like the new season, which starts on 10th March, is bringing quite a lot to the table, but the problem is that players have lost some faith in the game over the last couple of weeks, and it might be difficult to bring them back onboard.

The headline addition in Season 3 is the Isle of Grom, which is the tutorial island you begin the game on — only it's been overhauled and expanded with new playable areas.

This sounds great, but it's initially paywalled — and after that period is over, you'll still have to spend your hard-earned Rip Chips just to visit. It's a move that's really irked Skate players.

Elsewhere in Season 3, you're getting the following:

  • A 70s-inspired visual makeover
  • Graphical improvements
  • New spot: Tri Towers Parking Garage
  • New Speedlines mode
  • Loadouts feature for quick access to sets of cosmetics
  • Tattoos
  • Dark tricks (dark slides, dark flips) and improved Boneless tricks
  • Improvements and additions to Replay Editor

There are further improvements made to the UI and a new Skate Pass to progress through.

Overall it sounds like a pretty robust update to the game, and it's probably worth checking out, but the blocked off island — not to mention the recent announcement of layoffs at Full Circle — has left a bad taste in the mouth.
