We love and highly recommend Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as it is, but there’s no doubt its PSVR2 mode will make it better.

It’s just the perfect fit, isn’t it? Yes, sitting in the cockpit is awesome when you’re looking through the window of your 4K television screen – but we all want to be there, don’t we? Flying over New York City or Tokyo or Madrid.

The good news is that the flight sim is getting a virtual reality update for Sony’s system, and it’s coming soon. The official word from Microsoft is “early this year”, but we still don’t have a precise date.

A PS Blog post about the functionality does reveal more about what we can expect, though. In it, dev Asobo Studio reveals it used Gran Turismo 7’s unbelievable implementation as inspiration.

There’s also chat about how the game’s been optimised for PSVR2. Every cockpit has been tuned for Sony’s headset, as they obviously all have different knobs, switches, and instruments for you to interact with.

Furthermore, foveated rendering has been incorporated to help optimise the release’s performance for virtual reality.

For those who don’t know, foveated rendering works by focusing the PS5’s computational power on the parts of the screen you’re looking at. Because everything else appears in your peripheral vision, it doesn’t need to be rendered at the highest possible resolution, saving resources for elsewhere.

All in all, this sounds absolutely amazing. PSVR2 may sometimes feel like the forgotten piece of the PS5 era, but when it sings it delivers something truly transformative, and we have unbelievably high hopes for this.
