Recently, Kingdom Hearts turned 24 years old, and it's left fans hungrier than ever for news on what comes next.
Square Enix's beloved RPG franchise, which blends together Disney worlds and characters with over-the-top anime antics, got its start on 28th March 2002.
It's been hugely successful, with many games releasing over the years, but as ever, fans are eager to learn more about the future of the series.
Kingdom Hearts 4 was announced almost four years ago, and in that time we've heard barely a peep about it.
There hasn't even been a whole lot of recognition of the series' 24th anniversary, but Square Enix did provide fans with some new artwork and, more importantly, a tease of what's to come:
As translated by Genki, a message from director Tetsuya Nomura says the team is "currently working hard towards the 25th anniversary" before thanking fans for their support.
In other words, it sounds like we might finally be getting some sort of meaningful update in about a year's time.

So far, for Kingdom Hearts 4, we've had that initial reveal trailer, a batch of screenshots, and not much else.
We suppose, if you've already waited this long, what's one more year? About six months ago, Nomura assured that development on the game is "steadily moving forward", so it's not at a standstill, at least. Fingers crossed it'll be worth the wait.
Are you patiently awaiting the return of Sora and co? Tell us in the comments section below.

“We are currently working hard towards the 25th anniversary."
I don't know why, but that's probably the funniest thing they could've said for the 24th anniversary lol.
Well, can't wait for the game to release for the series 30th anniversary.
Surely if there’s one fanbase who have learned the value of patience, it’d be the Kingdom Hearts fanatics.
The Missing Link cancellation was a pretty big blow to their plans. I'm guessing KHIV will take longer because they're integrating parts of that game into it.
Waiting for 3 was worth it for me so im not too bothered
Idk that reads more to me as basically saying here's to another year of KH. But I guess they could have said something, anything about kh4 or kh in general to give us something to cope with lol
Anyone want to bet it’ll just be more “please be patient”?
I'd rather have them spend all the time they need if the alternative is a rushed game.
I really hope 4 is good 3 was disappointing
I'd imagine just like with FFVII Remake Part 3, they get Switch 2 players caught up on past entries and then reveal the new game.
Remember how we had Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 and Chain of Memories in three years?
Please brother Nomura I'm starving here
3 was not worth the wait so, uh, I guess this won’t be either. And at least between 2 and 3 we still had games coming out.
FF9 remake is reported to be on ice
This one will release in 2029 for Ps6 pro
DQ12 will be a launch tittle for ps7
New nier probably to be release around mid ps6 early ps7
FF17 to be release In 2029 also for Ps6 pro
And this is the current state of SE bad ASF
At least we FF7 part 3 relatively soon and I bet they turn advent children into a game
I'd rather have an update on Integrum Masterpiece, a rare case of a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" I'm interested in for fairly obvious reasons.😏
No, it hasn't been announced yet, which only fuels my interest.
It is not realistic for them to release KH4 so close after releasing KH3.
So that confirms no KH4 news this year? 🥲
My guess; they probably have an update / reveal for this year. But since their president wants to release on "every platform", they probably added Switch 2 and that changed the marketing schedule.
But dang, Square lineup for this year looks almost like a complete wasteland. No KH 4, no news about FF XVII, no VIIR part 3, and no new Nier.
Heck. They didn't even bother to remaster some of their classic catalogue anymore. I would love Brave Fencer Musashi, Xenogears, Drakengard 1-3, Vagrant Story, or Front Mission 4 & 5 remaster.
Oh well...
