Sony and its PlayStation division are businesses at the end of the day, and fresh data from Microsoft provides an insight into why the decision was made to port Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series X|S.
Across the majority of the metrics Microsoft tracks, the Xbox Series X|S port of Helldivers 2 is killing it. The company has published its 2025 Xbox Excellence Awards, which celebrate games that Xbox users play the most. In three of the four categories, Helldivers 2 is present. They are:
- Player Engagement — "The games with the highest average hours per-player within the first six weeks of release."
- Daily Active Users — "Games, expansions, or major updates with the highest single-day active users in 2025."
- Units Sold — "Top-selling content across Xbox and Microsoft stores."
Probably the most important metric for Sony will be the final one, how many copies it's sold. Unfortunately, the results aren't in order of the best-selling Xbox games, but Helldivers 2 is still considered one of the platform's best-selling titles of 2025.
The only metric where Helldivers 2 isn't considered one of the best is in the "Store Rating" category on Xbox. The port has a four-star rating after 1,200 user scores.
