Project Blackbird Leak

Supposedly leaked footage from Project Blackbird — the sci-fi, cyberpunk-style project that was in development at ZeniMax Online — is doing the rounds online.

Said footage looks pretty much conceptual from where we're sitting — this certainly isn't gameplay or anything like that — but it gives a decent impression of the title's aesthetic.

Again, this was coming from the studio that gave us (and continues to give us) The Elder Scrolls Online, and it was set to be another MMORPG.

However, reports from the summer of last year claimed that Blackbird would feature third-person shooting, and would have an emphasis on vertical movement. This leaked footage may back those claims up, as it boasts tall buildings and layered elevations.

As we all know, though, Blackbird was cancelled by Microsoft, having been in some form of development for roughly seven years. In that time, it had reportedly wowed executives like Xbox's Phil Spencer — but that clearly wasn't enough to save it from being canned.

Even now, no one's quite sure why Project Blackbird was cut loose — but we fully expect additional light to be shed on the saga over the coming months and years.
