Update []: We can't have nice things, can we?
Shortly after publishing our article on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake website leaking a potential shadow drop, it transpires that it's all fake.
The X account that spread the news has been suspended, so it's looking likely this was all a fabrication to drum up engagement on social media rather than sharing legitimate information.
Again, we'll keep you up to date with developments on the game as they happen.

The game has been in development for many years, and we've seen very little of it since its ropey debut back in 2020.
Back in December of last year, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson claimed the Sands of Time remake is planned for launch in mid-January 2026, later settling on the 16th. This statement led to speculation about the game reappearing at The Game Awards, which didn't materialise.
Now, eagle-eyed fans of the series have discovered further evidence that a release for the game is imminent, and it's all to do with the official Prince of Persia website:
Apparently, a lot of new files have been uploaded in the last couple of weeks, the theory being that Ubisoft is making preparations for the game's launch.
More recently, those keeping tabs on this have discovered a file literally named "game-release-tomorrow.png", obviously suggesting the Sands of Time remake is, well, releasing "tomorrow":
Whether this really does amount to anything, we'll have to wait and see. We'll obviously keep you updated on any news relating to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.
What do you think? Is the game really poised for launch so soon? Discuss in the comments section below.

One way to prevent lots of negative talk immediately prior to the games release, and following more of the game being shown, would be to not show any of the game prior to its release! Just shadow-dropping the game would mean that people would not see that negativity, and thus potentially buy the game without knowing much about it...
Shadow drops are just a massive Red flag for a disaster they don't want reviewed (critically AND technically) before launch. Oblivion Rm was a complete technical mess on shadow drop, and probably still is.
I mean, people are saying that about the black flag remake too they both can't be immient. Either way I excited to see if they have recaptured the magic the og had.
@Rich33 100% agree with you, I really don't understand why shadow drops have become so popular, everyone should have learnt the lession after oblivion remaster.
A shadow drop without showcasing the game for years isn't exactly a good idea, especially when the last time we saw it was slated for looking bad. Prince of Persia isn't exactly a massive IP like The Elder Scrolls is, it's more of a cult series nowadays. I hope it's good, but if this is true it sounds more like they just want to cut their losses and get it out the door.
I replayed it not that long ago and other than upping resolution and adding some quality of life features the only real issue with it was combat, which was always bad. I'm worried they will ruin more things that they will fix.
@Rich33 A shadow drop doesn't always mean a bad game. Hi-Fi Rush and Metroid Prime Remastered were both shadow dropped. As for Oblivion, sure it had its technical issues, but it was far from unplayable. I bought it the minute it became available and I enjoyed it for the most part.
Don't believe it 'till it's launched.
@BentIeyma This. But they should have at least gotten the difficulty right, and enchanting. Adept meant the game was ridiculously easy and Expert meant I had to put thirty arrows into one wolf. It didn't level off until around level forty, I'm not sure people played that long. Everything else was manageable and most of those bugs people reported were something I never encountered. Except the forest lighting up like a rave, I really thought it would be worse. People were reporting issues with saves too, I never encountered that.
Enchanting was the big one, I found some obscure fix by doing something with the text size in the U.I. My build was broken without it. I probably put about four hundred hours into it before returning to Indies. It's the only shadow drop I've ever bought and it was running all day and all night, it was an addiction.
We can't have nice things, can we?
Uh, yes we can. But not with your behavior which would spoil any good things anyway
Ahh Ubisoft, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs. What a time eh?
