Developer and publisher Rebellion has launched its reimagined rendition of the classic sports game Speedball on PS5 today, 27th January 2026.
Following a lengthy stint in early access on PC, the game has finally arrived on consoles, and the studio has marked the occasion with a new trailer:
Speedball is an aggressive, arcadey game about a violent future sport. To win, you need to score more points than the opposing team, and you can do that by scoring goals or performing painful-looking takedowns.

If you want to learn more about the game and how it operates, Rebellion also recently released an overview video, explaining how to play and all the game's modes:
You can enjoy a single player League mode to try and dominate every other team, engage in Quick Play matches against the computer or another player, or take it online for more competitive games.
It seems like a reasonably robust game, and should give fans of the series a shot of nostalgia while introducing new players to the mix.
Speedball is $29.99/£24.99 on PS Store — will you be checking it out? Let us know in the comments section below.

is this the rebellion that publishes 2000AD ?
@janineking indeed it is.
@Northern_munkey created an account just to tell them yes. You beat me lol.
@Mr_Vengeance1980 gotta love 2000ad. My childhood would have been so boring without it.
Man I used to love this game on Amiga. Brutal Deluxe!
Looks great - hope it hits Plus soon.
Is the original included?? Great game on the Amiga and Genesis systems
Bought this today. Played it a bunch this evening, it's super fun! Probably boosted by my nostalgia for the original.
@janineking It is, yes! From Oxford.
@Northern_munkey same here, I even brought that kids comic they did. Shame they don’t make any games using their ip..
@Mr_Vengeance1980 well there is the rogue trooper game and if you own older consoles such as an xbox etc there was a judge dredd game which I do believe is on PC too. But I agree they have such a strong character and storyline pool to choose from it's unbelievable there are no recent ones. Nemesis the warlock and the ABC warriors would be my ideal kind of game. Have you watched future shock on prime tv? Brilliant documentary about 2000ad.
I sunk so many hours into the original speedball on Amiga! Happy it's back might have to give this a try.
@Northern_munkey I saw the dread game on steam, have roguetrooper. Think I read that they have to play it safe making games so they won’t take the risk. Wish they would license the ip out. ABC warriors would be awesome, would love a Slaine game myself.
@Quintumply any chance of a review incoming on this one?
@BaldB3lper78 Unfortunately, no, I don't think so. Sorry!
@Quintumply oh okay. Cheers.
