Divinity The Game Awards Rumour PS5

Fans of Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios (ourselves included) are starting to believe that Geoff Keighley's big tease for The Game Awards has something to do with a new Divinity project.

For those totally out of the loop, Larian had created its own fantasy RPG universe — Divinity — long before it was handed the keys to Baldur's Gate. Both Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 were released on PS4, to widespread critical and player acclaim.

So why is this rumour gaining traction? Well, dating back as far as November of last year, leaks have strongly suggested that Original Sin 2 is getting a PS5 port. And now, PS Store scraper PlayStation Game Size is hinting that it's finally happening.

In short, the pieces of the puzzle seem to be clicking into place. If the all-encompassing Game Awards statue is tied to Larian's next title, then it makes sense to bundle announcements together, and slap Original Sin 2 on PS5 to help carry the hype.

Then, there are (relatively reliable) insiders like eXtas1s taking to social media in order to push the idea that the hellish statue — that now physically exists in downtown LA — is Divinity related.

What's more, some fans have pointed out that the creature designs featured on the statue do resemble some of the models from the aforementioned Divinity games — although you could, realistically, argue the same about any number of western fantasy properties.

To be clear, there's a lot of speculation at work here, but again, it does feel like things are lining up.

Larian's stock has obviously skyrocketed with the success of Baldur's Gate 3, and so Keighley would see the developer's next big reveal as a major win for his event. Plus, this whole marketing stunt won't have been cheap — and there are only a handful of outfits that would warrant such a cost.

What do you make of all this? Does this theory make sense, or could the big Game Awards teaser be for something completely different? Try not to create your own original sin in the comments section below.
