The Welcome Hub has become an important part of the PS5 experience, offering customisable widgets which allow you to show “at a glance” info that’s pertinent to you.
A recent update added a section for your most recently played release, detailing how many sessions you’ve launched in total and how long you’ve spent playing the game overall. There are also widgets for your wishlist, friends, Trophies, and more.
In addition, Sony has been bolstering this section with animated backgrounds inspired by popular first-party games like Stellar Blade and Ghost of Yotei. Recently, it added seasonal animations which will change depending on the time of the year.

And now as part of a new beta test spotted by YouTuber Mystic, the company is toying with some new improvements.
First is a kind of standby mode, which will fade out all the widgets and just show the animated background like a screensaver when you’re idle. Mystic notes that while the feature is cool, the screensaver will only actually load if you’ve clicked into the Welcome Hub, rendering its usefulness a bit less effective.
The other addition is a slideshow-style background which can pull from your favourite screenshots. You can adjust the animation of the wipes and the speed at which the picture rotates.
Some fun new additions, then, which will likely get rolled out universally in the near-future, hopefully with a little more refinement. What do you make of these changes and are you satisfied with them? Let us know below.
