World of Warcraft Console

For pretty much as long as we've been running Push Square, there's been talk of Blizzard porting World of Warcraft to consoles. Despite years of unsubstantiated rumours and industry whispers, it's never happened — and that isn't about to change any time soon.

Speaking on the latest Unshackled Fury podcast — a WoW fan channel — game director Ion Hazzikostas is asked about recent murmurings with regards to getting World of Warcraft on PlayStation and Xbox.

Unfortunately for hopeful onlookers, Hazzikostas makes the company's current stance clear:

"To be fully transparent, there's no reason for us to hide anything about this. If we were actively working towards bringing WoW to consoles, or a bunch of other platforms, we'd be saying [so]."

Since Blizzard was snapped up by Microsoft in the colossal Activision Blizzard acquisition a couple of years back, there were suggestions that the Xbox-owner would push the developer to expand its WoW-related operations, and finally branch the franchise out from its PC home.

But again, there's been nothing concrete on this front. We suppose there's a chance that WoW will enter the conversation as Xbox leans more and more into its multiplatform efforts, but given the sheer scale of the MMO at this point, it'd probably result in quite the undertaking.
