For pretty much as long as we've been running Push Square, there's been talk of Blizzard porting World of Warcraft to consoles. Despite years of unsubstantiated rumours and industry whispers, it's never happened — and that isn't about to change any time soon.
Speaking on the latest Unshackled Fury podcast — a WoW fan channel — game director Ion Hazzikostas is asked about recent murmurings with regards to getting World of Warcraft on PlayStation and Xbox.
Unfortunately for hopeful onlookers, Hazzikostas makes the company's current stance clear:
"To be fully transparent, there's no reason for us to hide anything about this. If we were actively working towards bringing WoW to consoles, or a bunch of other platforms, we'd be saying [so]."
Since Blizzard was snapped up by Microsoft in the colossal Activision Blizzard acquisition a couple of years back, there were suggestions that the Xbox-owner would push the developer to expand its WoW-related operations, and finally branch the franchise out from its PC home.
But again, there's been nothing concrete on this front. We suppose there's a chance that WoW will enter the conversation as Xbox leans more and more into its multiplatform efforts, but given the sheer scale of the MMO at this point, it'd probably result in quite the undertaking.
Have you long dreamed of playing World of Warcraft on PlayStation? Would you give it a shot it if it did eventually happen? Take on a new lifetime game in the comments section below.

They should just roll out Classic on consoles, stops the massive dump of content and means they can control the curve. Also would be cool getting to experience the expansions like new. I dipped in years ago and played a bit when MoP was the newest expansion but didn’t have the money to pay a subscription.
We don't like money - Blizzard 2025
Classic on consoles will be epic! Especially with their new invention, the One Button Rotation.
I can't imagine how they'd manage skill use properly for WoW. FF14 did a great job of providing console players ways to access all their skills, and maybe WoW could do something similar, but I'd fear it'd be too clunky.
I'd go back to playing every expansion if it were on console. I was a hardcore player for ten years when it released and I would definitely never do that again for any game.
‘Can’t wait for Microsoft to buy [insert Publisher]—it’ll be so awesome, we’ll get [insert nostalgic game from back catalog] on Gamepass! Haha PlayStation Ponies!!’
Strange how MS haven't pushed for it even if it was for Xbox only
@Balaam_

As a WoW player I feel that ESO is a far better fit for console play.
I'm not sure there is a massive market for WoW on console, who don't/haven't already played it on PC.
It's a game that requires significant time commitments at the expense of being able to play other games. If one is that interested in dedicating themselves to the game, acquiring a cheap mini PC or laptop is a relatively small barrier, and one they would’ve hopped a long time ago.
It’s a bit like what I said about Halo on PlayStation. Like you really want to tell me you are £80 desperate to buy this game, and yet couldn’t be bothered to grab an Xbox for £20 at a car boot sale and play it years ago??? I’m sure 99% of those buying Halo on PS5 will have already played it in one form or other in the past and just want to see the fancy graphics. That will not be applicable to World of Warcraft, as I’m sure the console version would look identical as per elder scrolls online.
So you want to pay £50 for World of Warcraft and then a £10 a month subscription, plus dedicating 30 hours a week to playing it. You are that desperate to play it yet you couldn’t be bothered to buy a cheap PC?
That makes about as much sense as the Chewbacca defence. Such people either do not exist or they are a very very very small vocal minority and not enough to sustain the product..
@DennisReynolds WoW is a sinking ship, and is Blizzard only money maker. MS probably think Blizzard efforts would be better suited fixing the experience before put effort into a console port that is not need at all.
Wonder if Marvel Rivals beating them with Overwatch has actually humbled them somewhat or if they're just going to continue to slowly spiral downward and just release mobile game slop?
@AverageGamer ...its hardly a sinking ship ! It has current subscribers of over 6 million, paying £10 per month. Its been going for over 20 years - it's never going to be as popular as when it had 13m subscribers but it's doing the numbers other MMOs would kill for
@KingPev That 6 million is only cause they recently shipped a new expansions. It quickly falls to under 5 million when people are done with finish the expansion. It been steady declining and it in a worse state than when Microsoft started the purchase of Activision. When your company was purchased as part of deal for $70 billion... Pulling in less than 6 million is not a good look which why Blizzard has had multiple project canceled.
Yeah, other MMO would love a 6 million sub count, but their company probably aren't even remotely worth a couple million.
You know you can just connect a keyboard and mouse to the console..its how i play ff14 , but then again theres probably a corelation between making bad games and making bad decisions.
I wish they'd give us the warcraft games like c&c on console😭 was gutted when they came gamepass and we're only pc lol
Not if Microsofts CEO gets involved they will have too
And they wonder why their business is crumbling…🤔
@nessisonett @Oram77 @Zuljaras @DennisReynolds
My guess would be with the next Xbox being able to load battle net and of course use Mouse and Keyboard. If you wanted to play WOW on “console” that would be the way forward. The game wouldn’t be a quick port to console. It would take a lot to the control scheme alone. Sure it would get some excitement for a few months and then the players would likely drop off. Thats a lot of work for something that will just be there for them next gen.
I haven’t played it in ages. So when i get the next Xbox i will likely give it a go that way just to experience it again. 😊
They don’t need to release it on consoles if MS next gen is going to be a PC it will just ran all of it starting from WOW, StarCrafts Warcrafts etc. Why spend money on conversion to console in this case?
