The Japanese games market is usually dominated by Switch software, but the latest Famitsu sales figures reveal a rare week in which a PS5 title rules the roost.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has managed to score the number one slot on the physical sales chart, selling an estimated 63,585 copies.
Further down the list is Super Robot Wars Y; the PS5 version is sitting at number five, having sold 30,969 copies. Another new release making a top 10 debut is console exclusive Lost Soul Aside, which squeaks in at number nine.
Over on the hardware side, things aren't quite as healthy for PlayStation; the PS5 is in fourth place behind a trio of Nintendo units, selling just under 5,000 machines — closer to 6,000 if you include the Digital Edition as well. PS5 Pro, meanwhile, manages 2,437 sales.
A fairly typical week of business in Japan for PlayStation, then, but at least there are a couple of games on the platform making some headway.

it baffles me how much japanese value handheld gaming
sony if they do it correctly will probably be successful in japan with their rumored handheld console
then again it just nintendo which is immensely popular not even a popular handheld like the steam deck is nearly as popular as the nintendo consoles
@judgmentarrows Mad image of a wee japanese man trying to carry a steam deck popped into my head there 🤣
@judgmentarrows If Sony play their cards right and launch it with some remakes of beloved franchises or even new games (like Monster Hunter), I can totally see it being successful in Japan. But they need to get the launch right. If they don't, even if it gets better, it will be ignored, especially in Japan.
@judgmentarrows I think it's more to do with Nintendo than the handheld gaming aspect, Japanese just adore their games and it's every rare you will find many third party switch/switch 2, games dominating the charts.
MGS Delta sold that much possibly got helped by Vtubers who streams the game and some of them was sponsored by Konami to play it.
