The Player Who Can't Level Up Has Really Unfortunate Luck in PS5 Roguelite 1

We’d sure hate to be The Player Who Can’t Level Up! Well, looks like it’s something we’re going to have to deal with in the upcoming roguelike adaptation of the Korean webtoon.

As the name implies, the gimmick of this story is that you play as Kim Kigyu, a martial arts master who can’t level up. That’s right, you’ll be playing this campaign from start to finish at level one. Good luck!

Fortunately, this is a roguelite so you will have other ways to power up:

“Instead of conventional XP and grinding, The Player Who Can’t Level Up introduces Ego Shards (perk-style abilities) and Blessings (random enhancements) that let you build devastating synergies run after run. With roguelite progression, dynamic combat mechanics, and the visual firepower of Unreal Engine 5, players are in for a fast-paced, high-skill action experience – with zero loading screens and full camera control.”

Korean webtoons and novels – like the highly successful Solo Leveling – have been soaring in popularity of late, so it’s not a huge surprise to see more stories transformed into games.

We think the concept is fun here, although the lack of levelling amounts to very little if you’re still buffing your character with Ego Shards and Blessings. There needs to be some kind of progression system, of course.

We’re just not overly keen on the bland backdrops; fighting in samey corridors could get tedious after a few hours. Hopefully there’s a lot more variety in the final game.

There’s no release date just yet, but dev Tripearl Games says to expect the final product in 2026. Is this on your radar at all? Don’t level up in the comments section below.
