Update []: In a nice turn of events for Trophy enthusiasts, it appears the decision to decouple Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from the Call of Duty HQ launcher actually has resulted in it receiving a Platinum Trophy.
The move to make the FPS a standalone download happened within the last few hours, and PSN Profiles has picked up a new Trophy list for Modern Warfare 3, including a Platinum Trophy.
Original Story: The heavily criticised Call of Duty HQ app should become slightly more manageable for PS5, PS4 players later today, as Activision has announced it's removing Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 from the launcher.

From 5pm BST / 9am PT on 29th July, the two titles will become separate, standalone downloads. This means any data relating to them will be taken out of Call of Duty HQ, and they shouldn't appear on the game select screen within the app anymore.
Any old content relating to game modes from the two FPS entries within Call of Duty HQ shall disappear completely on 7th August, but content from the two games in Warzone won't be affected. This is all designed to free up space, since the app can balloon to upwards of 200GB depending on what pieces of content you have downloaded.
Last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will remain part of the series' launcher, and Black Ops 7 is still planned to be part of it too when it launches later this year — this move from Activision isn't part of a decision to end the application entirely. Black Ops 7 doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but it is expected to compete with Battlefield 6 this Holiday, which is heavily rumoured to be out for PS5 on 10th October.
The Call of Duty HQ app is also the reason why new instalments in the franchise haven't had their own Platinum Trophy since 2022. Due too all the games funnelling into the same launcher, the Trophy lists have done the same under the Modern Warfare 2 Trophy listing, so follow-up titles have been treated as add-ons to that original Trophy list. This is not expected to change despite Modern Warfare 3 now being a standalone game.
Are you happy to hear that the Call of Duty HQ app should become slightly smaller soon? Let us know in the comments below.

Activision are unbelievably incompetent.
Having them all in one app is all about engagement and trying to make "Call of Duty" compete with "Fortnite" (and all the games that launch under that app), it's not about consumer convenience, it's a dick measuring contest. They should all be separate games.
Physical media? Space clutter in the real world and your console.
Digital downloads? Space clutter in your console.
Streaming? No clutter, the perfect solution.
@ThroughTheIris56 By consistently having the highest-selling game every year for almost two decades? Yeah, clueless company...
There's very few gaming franchises that I actively despise, and of the few I do, none more so than CoD (I won't even claim these games on PS Plus), but what they're doing here is working exactly as intended.
@Czar_Khastik No internet slow internet no gaming plus even less ownership game offline game gone.
@MrPeanutbutterz Doesnt change the fact that it is a horrible company.
@Czar_Khastik Phil Spencer? Was it you the whole time?
@Pat_trick My cover is blown even though I tried to convince everyone that I'm actually Jim Ryan.
From 200gb goes down to 199 gb 😂😂
I finally deleted the game from my hard drive the other day, I have not played COD in six months and really don’t want to any more. I think it’s time for me and the series to part ways…
@Flaming_Kaiser Okay, and? They called the company "incompetent" and that's what's being discussed, not how "horrible" they are.
My goodness what a mess
@Mike_iLL Smart move, more hair strand's will be staying on the noggin now.
The HQ was always moronic anyhow. The fact they continually make engaging with their products such an absolute ***** show is laughable. They definitely do not get NEARLY as much ***** as they should for how poorly they manage the franchise with this HQ thing these days.
@MrPeanutbutterz No because they clearly don't know what they're doing in regards to game launchers on a console of all things, and how ridiculously large their games are.
Not to mention the scumbags require you to have 2 PS Plus accounts to play SPLITSCREEN. So yes they are incompetent for messing up things that were perfected years ago.
They should all be standalone downloads for me. The ui for cod has been a mess for years. Genuinely annoying the way it works, especially for old timers like me who just play the campaign… though I appreciate I am in the minority.
CoD HQ was such a boneheaded idea. I play both MW3 and BO6, so I have both installed, but a friend of mine only plays MW3 and his install is basically the same size. This means that he's had BO6 installed the whole time and doesn't have access to it.
If you want to have hot links in your game to quick open another app, that's fine, but don't force us to have them installed!
@ThroughTheIris56 Massive installs so you don't play anything else. Again, working exactly as intended.
No offline, no deal
I’ve avoided these CoD games simply because they add each new title’s trophies to the same list, forcing you to play them in sequence if you’re after full 100% completion. As mentioned in the article, if this probably won’t be fixed once they make them standalone titles then I’ll continue to avoid them like the plague.
Does COD games take up waaaaaay too much space. Definitely not worth it 😂😂🤑🤑👀
@gomersoul I believe CODs UI revamp was lead by the former lead UI designer for Hulu. Which says it all. It’s absolute garbage UI.
@MrPeanutbutterz Or I delete COD and refuse to buy the next one because they take up too much space, and I can use that space to install games that aren't from a scummy publisher.
Lmao this means in 3-5 years Bo6 gets a platinum trophy. That's crazy
@MrPeanutbutterz Im sorry why are you sucking up to this garbage company? Man the state they have COD is really bad man im happy i only played BO4 free on PS Plus and the last one was the MW reboot on PS4.
@ThroughTheIris56 My man i totally agree i have not bought a single entry of them for 5 years or even longer now. I think that MS made the monetisation even worse.
@Flaming_Kaiser The only reason I got Black Ops 6, is because friends got me to buy it. In fairness, it is pretty good for a social game, and that probably contributes to a lot of their sales. Still, I was very insistent on waiting until it was on sale. I have no plans to buy another anytime soon, because we are well past the point of newer games being as good as the old.
So I deleted CoD HQ, which had both MW3 and BO6 installed. Before deletion, it was about 200GB. Now, I just have MW3 installed and its 160GB... huh? What on Earth is going on with their file packages??
since COD died to me after Black ops 3 i never have space problems
This is an absolute s h1 t show….
Before the update I had CoD HQ installed (XSX) with BO6 and MWII campaigns installed - total 165GB + 25GB reserved space (190GB);
Now to have the same content installed I need 136.8GB on the COD app for BO6 + 25GB reserved, PLUS another 110.2GB just for MWII campaign (and no doubt it will want to reserve another 25GB the minute I’ve downloaded the game and load my save).
So prior to the update the same installed content was 190GB, now it is a minimum of 272GB and likely more when MWII reserves space once it is fired up.
You literally couldn’t make this s##t up!
@ThroughTheIris56 And all COD games are full of US propaganda. They even rewrite pieces of history making them look looks the good guys.
@Flaming_Kaiser Interesting, any particular examples?
@ThroughTheIris56 Yeah Yeah the MW remake on PS4. Ill see if i can find the YouTube video i didnt know either but it was a interesting watch.
