PS5 owners can already play a version of Virtua Fighter 5 courtesy of the backwards compatible Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown. But now Sony’s system is battling its way into Round 2 with an updated version of SEGA’s legendary fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O..

Many of you may remember this edition releasing on Steam earlier in the year, with 4K visuals, improved textures, and more. All of those improvements will make their way over to the PS5, alongside rollback netcode and full crossplay with all other platforms.

“Since Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.’s launch, we’ve heard your requests for multiplatform support via the official Virtua Fighter Discord and other channels,” legacy Virtua Fighter producer Seiji Aoki said during a livestream earlier today.

“We on the development team want to give users on all platforms the opportunity to enjoy Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., so we are happy to bring you this announcement.”

He added: “We’re going to include even more content to make this much more than a simple port, which we’ll tell you about in future updates.”

SEGA’s going all-in on Virtua Fighter, and while development continues on an ambitious new entry, it’s trying to get the existing game into as many homes as possible. Sadly, no date has been attached to this R.E.V.O. re-release, but hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to play it.
