A brand new gameplay trailer for Mafia: The Old Country has just been released, and it's looking very promising indeed.
The game, which winds back the clock to 1900s Sicily, looks brutal and action-packed, with plenty of gunfights, vehicular jostling, and intense knife battles going down in the criminal underworld.
Visually it's impressive, with a varied range of environments all looking great. The trailer features a mix of gameplay and cutscenes, and it looks like a suitably cinematic experience.
The game is scheduled to arrive on 8th August 2025 on PS5, and it'll set you back $50 / £45, so it's not quite at the top end. You can pre-order the game now on PS Store.
In a press release, Hangar 13's president Nick Baynes describes the game as "a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay".
He continues: "That focus allows us to deliver a story that’s gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi's crime family."
2K president David Ismailer says there's a "large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments", suggesting Old Country isn't going to take dozens of hours to get through. "We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis."
As well as this new trailer, developer Hangar 13 is set to reveal more about the game later today, with a panel being streamed live on YouTube and Twitch.
This gets underway starting at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7pm BST.

Looks great! Day one for sure!
I think this looks incredible. Huge Mafia fan so can't wait to get my hands on this one. Love the setting!
£45 is a reasonable price, looking forward to play this one
For a brother to Rockstar under TakeTwo it's sad Mafia still can't get their open world close to their sibling's. Heard this is even going to be more linear, this trailer is something you can already play in TLOU2 or RE4 or something. GTA/RDR wouldn't be where they are if it was just about linear missions and not their WORLDS. I wish this is something close to MAFIA2 at least.
@Foxhound an offer you can’t refuse?
@TheArt I’m playing on Mafia remake on PC and I don’t mind that its linear. It’s a good game and good story with good characters and looks great. TBH I don’t want everything to be huge open worlds.
$50? Everyday i’m surprised by a new thing in gaming these days. Now it’s Take Two, of all publishers, releasing a game for $50. Like what the heck is happening? Weren’t prices going up? You can’t guess whats coming next anymore lately 😂 Love it though
And the trailer, outstanding! I already had this on my wish list. Still looking great.
Also noticed the Playstation logo at the beginning, does that mean they also have the marketing rights to this game? Liking the synergy between Take Two and Sony (Yeah it’s paid for lol, but still)
Looks far more interesting to me at this stage than GTA6
Looking good!
@LogicStrikesAgain They can probably sell this comfortably for $50 because they know how much money they're gonna make on GTA 6 for $70-$80!
@Quintumply More like $100...
Looks great! I had a blast playing through the Mafia games for the first time last year so I'm for sure picking this up.
August is going to be quite busy for me with this, Snake Eater and Gears!
It looks great but the driving gives me flashbacks to that one trophy and all of the videos of 'it's easy dawg just lean your stick like this, do this with X then slide' and it never worked. If you've played the old ones you'll know what mission I mean.
£45 is a great price. I enjoy the Mafia games, but if it were £60, I'd likely get it later. Now, after waiting to see the state it launches in, I'm considering getting it close to release.
@x3King84 So then what's the point of creating that world to drive in...is it just some backdrop...then they're better off cutting that whole section out. I like Mafia Remake too but like most of their worlds, it's mostly empty.
@Herculean biggest lie I ever heard.
So this is a third person Indiana Jones?
@Oram77 you'd have be a fool psy that for any game probably will be that price as well
Glad its linear actually, probably going to play it now, and great price!
Looks pretty but gameplay looks pretty generic. Don't think it'll outdo Red Dead 2
This game looks amazing and I can't wait to play it in August. Beat the first 3 and I'm definitely going to hit credits on this. Great series, except for Mafia 3 lol.
Looks good (possibly day one once i've seen more) but I'm craving a full on open world Mafia: Las Vegas game even more now 🙈
When they price it like that, is it because it's linear, short, or because it's more of a spin-off style game? I can't remember if they said they were working on a couple of games at once and this is just the first part of a planned few years of releases too
it‘s safe to say we are at that point in PS5’s life where you can really see graphical improvements when comparing to launch title games a few years ago.
DS2, GTAVI, Mafia are leagues ahead of SM2 or TLoU2Re
@Ravix most likely due to it been linear and probably like 12-15hr game, from what I can remember games that release for lower than average are quite abit shorter and less in game content, such as side activities fully fleshed out rpg abilities etc
@TheArt true. I suppose the ‘free drive’ mode is showing its age from the original game? It’s an illusion of open world without being so.
What are the other Mafias like? Any good?
Before people praise the price they need to remember that Take Two Interactive has Rockstar as one of their subsidiaries. So they can afford to have this "low" price. Its likely that this game will be shorter and since its not open world, less going on from a development standpoint.
@Cerny yup that is because the PS4 is no longer holding the current generation back. Its really nice to see current generation games only!
@Quintumply If I was rockstar I'd charge 100$ for the base game. Especially considering how ambitious this project seems to be. If it doesn't launch at 100$ then it will be 100$ at at some point in the next decade after release. Perhaps the PS6 definitive edition haha.
2K president David Ismailer says there's a "large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments"
Correct David. Looking forward to this.
Glad to also see this week the PS5 generation has begun!
@Uromastryx yeah, things like TLoU are linear and shorter too, but still command top price. But I suppose it'd be a risk for them aiming too high right now, even if a lot of people actually want this more focused approach for their games.
I hope it's quality over quantity, anyway, as I'm quite interested in it, so far. And it feels like they are a dev that need a success, as all their games are instantly compared to R*. Someone in the comments is already saying "well it won't outdo RDR2" like, yeah, no sh** 😅
@TheArt “ For a brother to Rockstar under TakeTwo”
More like a cousin once removed… They aren’t directly under take two like Rockstar. They under 2K Games.
This looks absolutely amazing
Wonder how long the game actually is though. Hoping more than ten hours.
I just played Mafia: Definitive Edition this year and was so impressed. This looks like a bet tree r version of that with a hint of Uncharted-level cinematics and gameplay.
The gameplay looks like it’s trying to be Uncharted, and I’m okay with that. I really hope the gunplay feels fun to play, and the driving mechanics aren’t too frustrating. As much as I liked Mafia 1, the wasn’t enjoyable to play through. Nonetheless, the game looks gorgeous. I’m looking forward to its release.
This definitely day one. Fantastic series and this looks to continue the trend
Was expecting a 79.99 price tag for the deluxe which I had in my psn wallet.54.99 surprised me preordered can't wait 🔥
This looks so freaking good!!! Mafia Definitive Edition is one of my favorite games of the past 10 years. This is a day one purchase for me with a bullet
N.i.c.e. I enjoy all the mafia games.and mafia the old country looks excellent. Word up son
Have to say this looks really good
@LogicStrikesAgain there has to be a reason it's only $50. I'm guessing with them coming out, saying it's not open world, and touting the game isnt going to be a "time sink" it's going to be really short.
@TheArt Not a lie, he's speaking the truth. The RDR games, like GTA, are linear in their missions. Unless you're from an alternative universe where those games having branching paths and multiple solutions?
That trailer, that price, and eschewing the tacked on openworld...this is a day one, and that's coming from someone who doesn't buy day one anymore.
