This author reviewed Killer Is Dead an incredible 12 years ago, but honestly doesn’t remember much about it. It was a Suda51 joint in an era where Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows Of The Damned had attracted mainstream attention, but we didn’t think it hit the same levels.
“Killer Is Dead shows that Suda51’s schtick is swiftly running out of steam,” we whined.
“The title’s sharp art style and snazzy soundtrack will no doubt lure you in, but the schlocky story and garish gigolo missions will leave you swatting at the air in regret.
“This is not a bad game, it’s just a boring one – and we never thought that we’d say that about a release that sees you chasing a tiger on a motorcycle.”
Either way, the game’s just surpassed one million sales, 12 years since release.
It’s likely most of those sales will have been contributed by Steam, where it regularly gets discounted, and – surprisingly – Xbox, where it’s backwards compatible. Frustratingly for PS3 owners, the game’s not currently playable on PS5 or PS4 in any capacity.

Well deserved and should sold more copies if not because of some "weird" backlash from western gaming media who didn't like the funny Gigolo missions.
Anyway. I hope this achievement means a potential sequel or at least remaster to fix the frame rate. But if not well i still have my PS3 copy.
Saw this on Twitter and was somehow confusing it with Killer7, but since I want Remasters of both titles and I somehow think that that's the reason why they are celebrating this now, I guess its okay.
My favourite Suda51 game, very underrated, love the style and combat of this game. The Gigolo missions were a bit weird, but nothing that takes away from the game.
Would LOVE a sequel!
Only heard about this game a couple of years again and have been looking for a copy ever since. 🤞 I find one before my ps3 packs up.
A game from 2013 is ancient now. I need to sit down.
Never heard this game until yesterday. Art style and gameplay look like my cup of tea. Wishlist on steam and i wait for sale before buying it.
This ancient game came out the same time as GTA V.
Such a fun game. Voice acting is great, plot is bizarre and fascinating, and the whole experience is short and sweet. The combat increasing your speed and damage for avoiding damage and building a combo is extremely satisfying as well!
I played this again last year on Xbox. Fantastic game.
Why is it surprising that sales would come from Xbox?
Quite a pathetic comment considering that most third party games tended to sell better on Xbox 360 and the fact that the only way to play it on current gen consoles is on Xbox.
is it due to xbox 360 digital sales from backcompat?
@Hitoshura25 A double pack for those would be beautiful
@Ribbitsneed I think it sold more on Xbox 360 when it first came out and probably sold a few on Xbox One and Series X|S.
