Publisher Dear Villagers has announced a PS5 release date for Star Overdrive, its fast-paced sci-fi action game initially released as a Switch exclusive.
It's only been out on Nintendo's console for a week, but the game is now pegged for 19th June, 2025 on other systems, including PS5.
We've embedded the Switch launch trailer above to give you an idea of what to expect.
Set on a colourful alien world, the game has you getting around on a speedy hoverboard, pulling off tricks and gliding across various biomes. When things slow down, there's physics-based combat to engage with using a number of abilities and tools at your disposal.

The game was awarded a respectable 7/10 over on Nintendo Life, praising the hoverboard traversal, intriguing narrative, and nice presentation.
No footage of the game in action on PS5 has been released, but hopefully it improves upon the Switch version in terms of technical performance.
It looks like it could be pretty good fun, especially if you miss the SSX days. Will you be playing Star Overdrive on PS5? Tell us in the comments section below.

Aye that looks awrite 👍
I suspect it could hardly avoid improving on the Switch version’s performance. Was hoping this would make its way to PS, glad I held off.
Got an email notification from Deku Deals that it hit its lowest price ever for the Xbox preorder. "Wait, Xbox?!" That's when I saw it was announced for PS5 as well. I really enjoyed the demo and am I glad I waited for it to multiply!
Looks cool, but for a hot second I thought I'd read 'Sunset Overdrive' and was going mental. Alas, the day shall come.
@AK4tywill We can only wish. 😔
This game has nothing to do with SSX. I played the demo and got bored pretty quick.
Demo was good on switch. Felt like it ran at a stable 30fps and the gameplay was comfy and fun.
@tameshiyaku ngl, that very first sequence in the demo where you got to boost on the hoverboard paired with the music kicking in was awesome! So glad it's coming to PS5 as well and there's a pre-order discount for PS+ members.
I wish there was a full list of former Switch-exclusives that made their way to PlayStation later on somewhere, I can only think of a few like Panzer Dragoon Remake, Master Detective Archives Rain Code, and Disney Illusion Island...
