Capcom has revealed it's releasing a remaster of PS2 classic Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny later this year for PS4. As it prepares for new mainline game Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the firm is returning to its remastering efforts, which it began six years ago with an updated Onimusha: Warlords release.
As the footage in the trailer above shares, this looks to be a fairly simple remaster project that simply brings back the original game in that same form with better visuals. It's releasing for PS4 later on in 2025, and will be available to play on PS5 via backwards compatibility.

Released for the PS2 in 2002, the follow-up introduced a new protagonist and expanded on the original's gameplay with extra mechanics and features. Will you check out Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny for the first time via this PS4 remaster, or are you a returning veteran? Let us know in the comments below.

We're one step closer to Onimusha Dawn of dreams! Definitely getting this as well
Good news, 3 and Dawn of Dreams next! Ok getting ahead of myself, but it'd be good to play these again. Looking forward to the new entry as well.
Gona drip feed us the last 3 games before the new one comes out. I am ready
i'm glad this series is finally starting to get some love
I gave up hope of remasters for the Onimusha sequels considering Warlords was years ago now.
I wonder what took them so long? I thought the sales were softer than they'd like and they chose not to bother (particularly with actor likenesses), but obviously not with the new game.
Really happy about this actually, I only ever got to play the original back on PS2 and lost interest in gaming fora while not long after. Picked up the remaster of the original a couple of years ago and will definitely be picking this one up too.
Holy s* yes. This a day 1 for me!
I lost my PS2 copy years ago and last month almost buy a secondhand copy for 50 bucks but i cancel it because i had a feeling it could get a remaster.
Is that the one with Jean Reno...game was so grainy couldn't bother finishing it. Felt like a good game though.
Bring Sengoku Basara to the west you f*cking cowards!
Sold. And some other words because the word sold is to short apparently. Way to give it a complex you judgey bunch.
We got ninja gaiden remaster and now we're getting onimusha remaster what a time to be alive!!
I was always a big fan of the Onimusha series, and I feel it would have been great to get an actual remake, a la Ninja Gaiden, rather than just a remaster. Certainly the latter entries would benefit!
Yes, yes, and yes
@TheArt He was in Onimusha 3 Demon Siege
This is my least favourite one but if means we get onimusha 3 and onimusha dawn of dreams after I'll buy it. Hope they don't forget onimusha blade warriors, would love to have all 5 games remastered. Also the guy in the new onimusha game kinda looks like takeshi kaneshiro who played samanoske, hope it is lol
100% purchase for me. Thank you, Capcom!
Nice. I didn't expect any announcements from this showcase.
Only 6 years after Onimusha 1 got ported to PS4. Better late than never I guess. Can we assume 3 is coming at some point?
N.i.c.e. im still playing the first onimusha.such a amazing game.im ready for onimusha 2 samurai destiny.word up son
@Orpheus79V Same! I was surprised to see the new game being announced at Game Awards, but I think that announcement has spurred Capcom to release the other games as remasters.
Hello there fellow gamers.
This is great news, although I think we should have gotten this remaster at least two years earlier.
Better late than never, I suppose.
It´s pretty cool seeing all this great action adventure gaming franchises coming back.
loved Onimusha back in the day. Played all of them except Dawn of Dreams. Don´t even know why.
Maybe we´ll get the last two and complete the collection.
Can´t wait to see more of Onimusha Way of the Sword.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
And there was much rejoicing.
Always happy with more onimusha. This game was one of my favourites.
