Football Manager 25 has been hooked, with developer Sports Interactive focusing on Football Manager 26 instead. This year’s version – which had already been delayed twice and was due in March – was being billed as a massive leap forward for the popular spreadsheet sim, but the studio has decided to call curtains on the endeavour.
“Due to a variety of challenges that we’ve been open about to date, and many more unforeseen, we currently haven’t achieved what we set out to do in enough areas of the game, despite the phenomenal efforts of our team,” a statement from the studio said.

“Each decision to delay the release was made with the aim of getting the game closer to the desired level but, as we approached critical milestones at the turn of the year, it became unmistakably clear that we would not achieve the standard required, even with the adjusted timeline.”
The studio continued that while it’s achieved much of what it set out to do, the final product is “too far away from the standards you deserve”. As a result, it’s cancelling Football Manager 25, refocusing its efforts on Football Manager 26, and aiming to get back on track from there.
“We could have pressed on, released Football Manager 25 in its current state, and fixed things down the line – but that’s not the right thing to do,” it continued. “We were also unwilling to go beyond a March release as it would be too late in the football season to expect players to then buy another game later in the year. “
While it’s rare for these annual sports titles to miss their annual release schedules, we don’t hate the decision. At least with the extra time, Sports Interactive has a better shot at delivering on its vision for the series.
The only thing we’d criticise here is the lack of communication. The studio does say this was the earliest it could put out a statement, but it does feel like fans have been left in the lurch a little bit ever since the first delay.

This is a good decision and refreshing that it’s not been rushed to market unfinished.
However let’s face it whatever was going to end up being FM25 will just turn into FM26!
The delays have probably been because they had to keep adjusting the stats of Man City as they took a nose dive this season.. 😅.
@Bionic-Spencer Busy coding in the Stay Humble curse
@Bionic-Spencer Hopefully 130FC are in EFL League One when FM26 is released
Respect to the publisher for making the right decision and not shipping an unfinished product
It’s the right decision.
But I still think originally they should have skipped fm25, to focus on fm26 with plenty of time.
They could have given fm24 a transfer update with fm25 teams.
That's what you get when a poorly-run studio makes an ill-advised engine switch without proper time and resources to prepare for it.
Maybe now they can get national teams back into the game, that'd be nice. Oh yes, we're upgrading the engine, but leaving loads of features behind because uhhhhhh lol
Yearly releases for sports games is ridiculous and people r willing fools
@Golem25 they would be a poorly run studio if they released it in october last year. Not releasing it and keep the work going is a very sensible decision which all studios should take inspiration from
@Foxhound Keep dreaming 😂 more chance of Spurs winning a trophy than that happening
Football is a dumb sport,
sincerely,
A Spurs fan.
Good decision. Annual titles are near impossible to churn out nowadays with significant worthwhile improvements unless they do a COD and have different devs cycle in. they have to switch up the schedule and start making it at least bi-annually. Commendable decision.
They haven't abandoned it, they have simply renamed it, delayed to next season and keep working on it in the meantime. They make it sound like they have changed focus, but the fact of the matter it's too late in the season to release it
It’s an awful situation and the lack of communication is irritating. Ah well, 24 was given free with Epic and I’m over 10 years into my save with 14th tier Woking and Maybury. League One now, just got dumped out the Europa League round of 16 by Roma after the world’s easiest run to the FA Cup as a League Two side.
As the saying in football goes, "the game's gone."
That’s a shame
Anyway
@TedLassoNikes Spurs will win the Europa League, since Postecoglou always wins a trophy in his second season 😂
