Earlier this year, publisher Capcom announced the next instalment of the Resident Evil series is in development. With Resident Evil 9 confirmed in all but name, fans of the horror franchise are patiently awaiting the full reveal, and that may come very soon if Metacritic is to be believed.
A page for the upcoming game was recently spotted on the review aggregation website. Metacritic doesn't typically create listings for titles that have yet to be publicly unveiled.
While it could simply be a placeholder page, given that the game is already confirmed to be on the way, some fans are taking this as a sign that we'll be seeing the first of Resident Evil 9 sooner rather than later.
According to X user Projekt Parasol, a similar situation occurred when Metacritic created a page for Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition roughly two months prior to announcement. In about two months from now, The Game Awards 2024 will take place on 12th December.
So, an official unveiling of Resi 9 at Geoff Keighley's year-ending show certainly seems plausible. Rumours about the game have been flying around for what feels like ages, so it'll be nice to finally put this to bed — here's hoping Capcom gives us what we want in the near future.
What do you think? Is the Metacritic page a sign that we'll see the game very soon? Munch on a green herb in the comments section below.

I think a Geoff Keighley announcement is entirely possible and could be the reason we haven’t seen it elsewhere. If RE9 is 2025, add it to the list of games more exciting than GTA6 to be released next year (for me, personally).
Surely this is just a placeholder from Metacritic, though?
Which is it? The article says the game is 'confirmed in all but name', and then says the page is a placeholder, given that the game is 'already confirmed to be on the way'. So is Res 9 confirmed? 🤞
@Owyn that's because it's been confirmed.

Knowing how Capcom does marketing, as we get closer to MonHun Wilds release they'll probably start announcing their next big game for Q2/Q3, which will probably be a new Resident Evil.
The question is whether or not it will be RE9 or another RE project they have been cooking.
Sony was used to reveal the past few RE games via SoP/Showcase so perhaps a SoP/Showcase sometime in December - March. They may do something special in December for the Playstation 30th anniversary or there may be an event in the usual January - March slot.
Sounds like a TGA reveal with April-May release date.
Dino Crisis remake
@Grumblevolcano That would be nice if Sony did a real Showcase in dec. for their 30th anniversary. They could show us some new upcoming 1st party titles and maybe a release date for Ghost of Yotei. Although i think it ll be Game Awards for RE9 and just a 15 minute State of Play featuring Ghost somewhere early next year, considering how Sony handles stuff the past few years.
I ALWAYS said RE 9 would not be announced during the last State of Play and so many people online mocked me for it. Just as I always said RE 9 will definitely release Fall 2025.
So yeah reveal at Game Awards entirely possible. In any case the game is still a year away but will definitely be the next game in the series. Then Remakes of RE 0 and Code Veronica next probably between 2026 and 2028 as some of the last games before PS6 comes out.
@riceNpea they’ve said the next resident evil game is in development but I don’t think they’re ever said it’s re9 the sequel to hit game resident evil village for instance. That and also well that’s the thing RE8 isn’t ever called RE8 it’s called Resident Evil VIILage with the Roman numerals in the word making VIII. So similarly I think what they’re getting at is this game could be called EXtinction with the thin line of of E being I and x being well x making it IX.
@Ryne-Gaia that's what I thought. PS is muddying the waters with what they say.
Thanks.
